Daily Messages – Rev. E. Anderson

‘I have been young, and now am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor His seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and His seed blessed’ – Psalm 37: 25, 26. When His people take the love and care to provide for others they discover that the LORD abundantly rewards their kindness. You cannot bless others and not be blessed by Him. The latter is greater and better than the former. One way to discover and know the kindness and blessing from on high from the Most High is to pour out your goods on others

FACING THE CHALLENGE

Hannah is one of the choice women of the Bible who faced and dealt with a personal challenge. She longed for a baby and was disappointed for years in barrenness. How easy to have given in and surrendered the situation! She refused to accept the status quo and the persecution of her opposite, Penninah. Through persistent prayer and misunderstanding she pressed through and got her choice son – 1 Sam 1. The Lord gave even more children. There are things that seem to block your fruitfulness and greater blessing. It is time to take out of the book of Hannah and press through and obtain the answer. It is worth all the effort and faith.

ADDED DIVINE MOMENTS

Genesis 13

This wonderful servant of the Lord was going to discover many more choice divine moments within his spiritual career. It commenced in knowing a remarkable one in Ur but there would be many more as he acted in love, faith and obedience in the land of Canaan. He learned to build a devotional life in the erection of many altars and especially at the place called Bethel, house of God, he knew a rich and wholesome fellowship with God his new found and valued Friend.

At another crisis juncture in his experience he would find the appearance of the Lord in a significant and meaningful exercise. The Lord had apt and appropriate times of turning up and disclosing Himself and revealing things that would be most helpful and constructive. Yet again, He breaks in at a special season to disclose those things that would help him to work out His design for his life.

1/. THE DIVINE MOMENT CAME AT A TIME OF SEPARATION

There came the precise time when there had to come a separation between Abram and Lot. The former felt responsible for his nephew but there came the situation where Lot had to make his own decisions and plan his future. It was brought about by a dispute and feud that could have escalated into something more major, but Abram, wisely in grace, defused it giving Lot an option. Lot, it seems, was selfish, and chose what appeared to be the best. He had not really come to know the Lord like Abram had and so did his own thing. The patriarch was prepared to leave his future in better and greater hands and was rewarded with a divine visit.

2/. THE DIVINE MOMENT CAME WITH A WORD OF REVELATION

It does not state in what way the Lord came but Abram knew the touch and voice of the Lord in his affairs at this point. The prophetic truth began to flow and promise was given appertaining to what lie ahead. He need not worry upon the land factor because he was shown the greatness of the possession and who would possess it – ‘his seed.’ This was no temporary arrangement but was something that embodied generations to come. Before any child arrived or any plot was purchased the Lord gave insight and foresight and the best was to be.

3/. THE DIVINE MOMENT CAME WITH AN ASSURED CONFIRMATION

Now it was time for Abraham to perform again in faith by ‘arising, walking through the land . . . .” To reveal that he believed, there was that which he had to do to indicate to God of his assured state of mind and heart. Later. in the family history Joshua would be called upon to ‘arise’ and take the land – Joshua 1: 3. The land-owning mentality had to take over their thinking – they were to be inheritors.

4/. THE DIVINE MOMENT WS FOLLOWED BY IMMEDIATE ACTION

Abram was quick on his feet and made known to the Lord his accord with what had been spoken. There was to be no hesitancy only a full-blooded commitment and further sealed with the building of a divine altar. What had been given in that added moment was not to be lost.

‘The LORD knows the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever’ – Psalm 37: 18. It is good to know that every day the watchful eye and mind of the LORD is on those who live and walk according to His desire and design. He is upright and loves to observe those who embrace this quality of being and behaviour. The real assurance is that this no fleeting factor, temporary phase. In fact a choice and permanent future is promised by way of possession. They are moving on into something abiding. The upright have everything to anticipate because it is in the hands of the creator, owner and sustainer of the universe! They will last and so will be the inheritance the LORD bestows.

FACING THE CHALLENGE

Moses was to be confronted with a staggering task when he was eighty. He originally sensed he was called to fulfil a major role and seemingly felt he had blown it and missed his destiny. He is ready to settle down and become a shepherd looking after his father-in-law’s sheep. But the LORD stepped in to make him amidst his failure to become one of the great leaders in human history. Winston Churchill regarded him as the greatest adorning history! He humbly takes on the might of Egypt and sees it overthrown and becomes the dynamic leader of God’s people. What an extraordinary time it became! He faced the challenge and became renowned. You have been equally summoned by the Most High to serve in leadership that will make a difference. Now is the time to proved and adventure with God.

Thomas Brooks wrote, ‘It is not the bee’s touching of the flower that gathers the honey, but her abiding for a time upon the flower that draws out the sweet. It is not He that reads most, but He that meditates the most, that will prove the choicest, sweetest, wisest and strongest Christian’.

MessagesThis is a lovely assurance – ‘ A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked’ – Psalm 37: 16. What a contrast and comparison! Because the LORD is able to bless the little and make it much as He did with the cruse of oil, the widow’s seemingly last meal, the boy’s lunch etc. It would appear He thrills to care for those in desperate need and wonderfully provide. There is no need to envy those who seem to have boundless wealth and simply stockpile and place their faith in uncertain riches. It is better to be rich in faith, trusting the LORD and to witness His kindness, goodness and greatness. He is irreplaceable!

FACING THE CHALLENGE

There certainly came a time and experience in the life of Jacob when he had to radically change. The LORD must have anticipated keenly the hour when this man would meet his match and submit to inward transformation. It is recorded in Genesis 32 where this individual had a night visitor and where he had a heavenly contest and as a result he had a name and nature change. From Jacob, deceiver and twister to Israel, prince with God. He became a founding father of a unique nation, twelve sons being the basis of something bigger. It is possible that God has to get us and side to do a deeper work in us before He can perform a greater work through us.

PROMISE FOR TODAY

‘The steps (and stops) of a good man are ordered by the LORD:and He delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with His hand’ – Psalm 37: 23, 24. Know that the LORD knows your nature and deeds and takes pleasure when you are being and doing your best in tokens of goodness and kindness. He will ever be your sustainer even if you slip He is alongside to render immediate help. He who is omniscient (all-seeing), omnipresent (always around), is omnipotent, all-powerful to afford His assistance. Together, today, you can meet all that is before well. Although you may slip and slide, HE DOES NOT!

FACING THE CHALLENGE

Joseph knew he had a great calling and destiny on his life. Within the God-given dreams he sensed that as far as his future was concerned there was something of note in the pipeline. In one sense it is good thing he didn’t know and had to journey by faith. It was a strange and fortuitous route he had to take. If the LORD lays immense great hopes regarding you for a an important role to accomplish, know also that there will be times of querying and questioning. You must learn to trust and leave all to His providential workings. One thing for sure: He didn’t fail Joseph nor will He desert you or His ultimate plans for you!

PROMISE FOR YOU TODAY

‘Delight yourself in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart’ – Psalm 37: 4. This is a very choice promise to hold in memory and faith knowledge. The first thing is He is to be your supreme attraction and the subject of your loving adoration. As you major on this today you will discover that the best longings will become an integral part of you and will supersede anything you could desire of your own making. His dreams and destiny outweighs yours and as you focus on Him, He is committed to see you at your best and enjoying your best. So follow the example of the psalmist in this – ‘I will rejoice in you and be glad, I will exalt your love more than wine . . .’

COMPOSURE

Such is not easy to maintain when pressure comes and unexpected incidences arises of a provoking and disturbing nature. Keeping calm and collected is a demanding factor. When you are composed you can take charge more easily and things appear to slot readily into place. When once anger and irritation arise a lot of evil can ensue. My brother told me a few years ago of a difficult situation that happened that startled him. Whilst travelling carefully on the motorway one morning, a driver passed him and suddenly pulled up in front of him. It required him to act quickly to avoid a collision. The driver jumped out his car irate and fuming. My brother was wise and had the sense to lock his car doors. The man sought to force entry and it seemed to threaten or harm him. My brother could not understand any cause for it. The man went back and tore off in his car. A little down the road he saw the man involved in a crash. Lost composure on his part was to his own undoing. So make sure God’s peace rules your within and all will be okay.

A DIVINE MOMENT OF CHANGE

Genesis 12:1-4; Acts 7: 1-4

In this recorded instance we have the Lord breaking through in a vital moment of human history that was to have momentous effects. One man in particular was to know a divine stirring in his being that would set the divine momentum going in his life and dynamically impact the course of history. The Lord was to appear to him and from that moment of encounter things would never be the same again for him and the world. A change was to be initiated that each subsequent century would feel the impact of it. Abraham has become one of the most well-known figures of the past because of this happening, and it took place in the Ur of the Chaldees.

1/. THE MOMENT WAS TO RADICALLY CHANGE HIS VIEW OF GOD

The culture in which this man had been brought up was the belief that there were numerous gods. The system existent from his childhood and throughout life to this point was the acceptance and worship of idols that represented gods representing many things. This man must have sensed in his spirit-being that this was not true and right and a quest must have been present to discover and know the reality and truth with regard to this issue. Who was the mind and heart of the universe? of all things? Of life, etc.? He required an answer for himself in his day and generation and there came the unique moment when the Lord broke through into his life which became radical and unforgettable

When this occurred there came an immediate break with that system and the Lord alone became the one that supremely mattered. He was to place His trust in Him and respond to Him in a glorious fashion and that faith became the hallmark of his life and future. The Lord was to become everything to him and become the most outstanding feature of his life and conduct. He discovered the Lord to be very real and the ever present one in all of his affairs.

2/. THE MOMENT WAS TO RADICALLY ALTER HIS SENSE OF DESTINY FOR LIFE

At the outset, the Lord was to enter into covenant agreement with Him and fill his life with glorious promises and glowing prospect. In this encounter the Lord predicts with prophetic certainty as to what the course should be in relation to Himself and his life, and it centred in the fact of blessing, and it becomes a repeated word in his spiritual career. Besides assuring him that he would make of him a ‘great nation’ before he had any offspring, He states He would be richly blessed in every way, One can read the extent of the good will of the Lord towards him in blessing as he believed and obeyed the Lord.

3/. HE MOMENT WAS TO RADICALLY COMMENCE A BRAND NEW BEGINNING

That moment was to introduce the fact of complete conversion and change because he had to move out geographically to a new place and environment of the Lord’s selection. It meant ceasing to being a city dweller and becoming a tent-dweller and he was to become the first ‘pilgrim-father.’ He had to get out and move out with God. No longer could he stay put but faith had to have new legs and to embrace the vision of divine purpose. A fresh start was made.

KINDNESS AND TENDERNESS ‘ – Rev. E. Anderson

‘Be ye kind one to another, tender hearted’ – Ephesians 4: 32. These two thoughts have been in my mind and heart these past few days. Having tasted in a remarkable manner and measure such at the hands of people in the outside world and Christian fellowship, one senses its value and necessity. It is not to so much what we say that carries weight and virtue, but by doing choice and caring things and the way such is performed. Love is best demonstrated in acts of kindness that flow from a tender heart. It is my need above all, to reflect the quality character of God. A gracious deed is a powerful message! Help us all in this!

HE CARETH FOR YOU
This is what Peter affirms and found out to be true and passess it on to you and me – ‘casting all your care upon Him He careth for you’ – 1 Peter 5:7. He who created and has sustained and does ever sustain it, assures He is looking after you, too, and your interests today. What you cast upon Him He deals with, so you know what you should do!

DIVINE MOMENTS  – A DIVINE WORKMAN

Genesis 6-9

The account of Noah embraces four chapters and he appears at a critical point in human history. It was a most unfavourable time to exist because of the spiritual and moral climate. In the eyes and judgement of God the whole society of mankind was wicked and corrupt and caused Him intense displeasure. The people were vile and violent and were repulsive in the sight of Creator-God. He only wished it had been otherwise but it was not so. There was only one man and his family that had any moral rectitude and standard of acceptable behaviour before him, Noah. He was to become His workman and the means through whom He could commence again.

1/. HE WORKED AT BEING APPROVED OF GOD – GENESIS 6: 8

He knew God sufficiently to live and act in a becoming manner. At some stage he must have known a choice encounter and experience with and of God that affected his whole attitude to life. Being switched on to God he was switched off to the ways of those around him. He was a sanctified and separated person to the cause of justice and righteousness and he worked at the manner in which he conducted himself. Knowing God wrought a perfect conduct that was well pleasing to the Lord and stood justified before Him.

2/. HE WORKED AT BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD – GENESIS 6: 9

The remark is made that ‘he walked with God’ following the example of Enoch. This underscores the fact that he did not take his association with God lightly but worked at developing a constant communion with God. He sensed this was critical in the evidence of all the rottenness seen all around. Walking with God was a magnificent inspiration and was a needful preservative. He got to know God and God revealed Himself and His ways to him.

3/. HE WORKED AT BEING OBEDIENT TO HIS ASSIGNMENT – GENESIS 6: 18-22

The Lord was to give him one of the toughest and demanding jobs ever given to a person. It was not to be an easy assignment, erecting a boat that would take a 100 years to construct and with a hostile community around. But he was diligent in his work and proved to the Lord he could be trusted to carry through His will and plan. He did not fail in this marathon enterprise but relentlessly kept going on.

4/. HE WORKED AT EFFECTING THE REGENERATION OF THE WORLD – GENESIS 8: 20 – 9

Coming out of the ark he builds an altar to the Lord and then, along with his family, forms the foundation of a new start with and for God. He is the recipient of a divine covenant and loyally moves on with God. The world needed to be regenerated and Noah became the person through whom God was to bring it about. It was up to him to set the tone for the next generation.
