Being and Living in the Right Place. The psalmist truly points out the blessing of dwelling in a sure spot. He states in Psalm 91:1 “He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Jerusalem was always considered to be a great stronghold and could withstand immense attacks from formidable armies. But it could be taken! However, those who have the sense and faith to make Jehovah their stronghold are safe and secure from everyone and everything that would oppose. The Almighty is not misnamed but entitled to this unique attribute. Be sure, He is your security from the cradle to the grave, and beyond: in fact, forever!

An Unchanging God

You live in an ever changing world and even you are subject to such. Sometimes it is for the better, sometimes the worse. The good news is that your confidence rests in an unchanging God who is perfect and complete with infinite grace and attributes that He wills to show you in this life and the eternal ages to come. He will never ever be bankrupted or be in an embarrassed state where He cannot perform what is blessed and good for you. He purposes to prove to His creatures, including you, He is all sufficient and is ever hand to act in favour. Promise to be Appreciated: Paul declares, “It is written, ‘Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him'” – 1 Cor: 2:9. God is raising a divine Family in Christ and His great purpose is to bless each member of the Household. If you are in it, then your expectation level should be high, to taste of His great, eternal goodness. It starts now before you get to heaven. So begin to believe and receive from Him. Not only the promises to be assured of but experience the actual fulfilment. Today is YOUR red-letter day!

One of the awful killers of life is excessive anxiety. Many people are loaded with worry over many things. Yes, even little things are stockpiled and become a heavy burden to bear in mind and heart. They live on pills and potions to bring some relief. They live not realising that God truly cares and can answer the lot if placed into His hands. One of the important tasks is to learn by faith to cast each one into His capable lap and permit Him to show both His love and power. Don’t you know that He that created and runs the whole universe is quite able to look after you and all your Interests?

Trial and trouble: Christ knew this  and so affirmed: “These things have I spoken you, that in Me you might have peace. In this world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” – John 16:33. He reveals the real scenario of the Christian life. There will be conflicts and tensions that will beset the believer but in the centre of the being is a citadel of peace that is unnerved and unmoved. Christ is the One to be appreciated and copied. He is the altogether the Overcomer and enables all to overcome and have something to be cheered and to smile by. The world can be in upheaval but not you.

A Promise Being Fulfilled

Absolute victory for the saint is assured in and through Christ in His Saviour-hood th and Lordship. “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” The final word is one of assurance – it will be so! You need not be terrified of mortified by the evil one because he is under Christ feet forever and this is now your kingdom right. Do allow Satan to monopolise your life. Not only give him his marching orders, take constant authority over him, today, and always.

Doing Good

Learn to give yourself away to others by blessing them in any and every possible way. Although President Trump is a billionaire, he has enriched and blessed the lives of many ordinary people. It is not beyond his status to show kindness when required. Whatever you have place at the disposal of your LORD, use such to advantage others in what is necessary. The little lad with his small five loaves and two fishes handed them to Christ and what a miracle occurred! It has remained on permanent record and inspired many to do likewise. Who knows what is going to happen when you lovingly and willingly give?

A Fresh Visitation

As Christ assesses the state of the churches in Asia Minor, in addressing the church in Laodicea He is not impressed for the good and He offers an ultimatum and opportunity for a fresh, spiritual visitation. He says: “Behold I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice , and open the door, I will come into him, and will sup with him, and he with me”  – Rev 3:20. Although things were in a bad state in therms of a holy, healthy send warm relationship it opportune to make thing different. It was time to get tuned in and heavenly inspired and have a positive accord with the head of the Church, Christ. It may well be you have lost your love and zeal and the time it to be renewed to what Christ desires. Don’t miss this entreaty from on high!

Lesson to be Learned

There are occasions when we need to respond to a sudden urge because much depends on an immediate response. Travelling on the motorway on one occasion I was travelling in the middle lane. All of a sudden my friend in the passenger seat said pull over into the fast lane. I did not question but immediately responded. It was a good job I did otherwise a nasty pile up would have occurred. A driver in the first lane suddenly without notice pulled out in front. We avoided a bad situation because of a quick response. May your senses be ever wide awake and tuned up and in and so be open to any sudden directive.

Something to Think About

Doctors: Never argue with a doctor – he has inside information.

Driving: Always to drive so that your license expires before you do

Eating: More people commit suicide with a knife, fork and spoon than any other weapon.

A Promise to being Fulfilled

This is one assurance that the Christian Church and believer that need  to lay hold of collectively and implement with abandonment- “If my people , which are called by my Name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgives their sin, and will heal their land” – 2 Chronic 7:14. When we respond to God and do His part then He will do Him. There is not a great deal of time left, hence the urgency to implement the divine requirement. Thankfully, it is not too lat to seek and experience revival! An open heaven with of its unique blessings will be seen.

Doing Good

Four people were determined to express kindness to a man in order to get him to Christ. They were not deterred by the crowds that appeared to frustrate the will to see this man blessed. If it meant removing some of the roof to do so. Let it be. The consequence of their inited effort, the man was healed. Christians unitedly must show concern and commitment to influence the needy to get to Christ. Every effort and loving means must adopted to see people miraculously touched by Christ. Your love, concern and action are a priority. Christ waits for you to bring them to Him. He will do the rest.

A Fresh Visitation

It seemed impossible for Israel to ever become a people and nation again as they languished in Babylon. They appeared to be a finished unit and that there was no future for them. But God let it be known that their captivity would be turned. In the pipeline was a king, Darius, and He was going to raise and use him and bring the extraordinary about. Never think that the hands of the Almighty has His hands tied. He just knows how and when to change the situation. May be you require fresh visitation. Write Him into the desolate and foreboding conditions and see Him supernaturally work. Don’t write Him off but into the scene and see it transformed.

Lesson to be Learned

The piano used by the great composerLudwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) Is in a museum in Vienna. A young tourist walked casually towards it, and seating himself at the stool, ran off a careless air. Then turning to the attendant , he asked whether any great pianists had come to inspect the instrument. The attendant, informed her that a short time before, Ignace Paderewski had made a pilgrimage to the shrine?

‘Paderewski?’ Inquiredthe girl. ‘And surely he played something beautiful on this old instrument.’

‘On the contrary,’ replied the attendant. ‘Mr Paderewski did not feel worthy of touching it.’

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee: because He trusteth in Thee” – Isaiah 26:3. Because there is a simple and constant staying of mind on the LORD, the inevitable is a state of positive and personal peace. Instead of falling apart and being in pieces, one is kept in a condition of wholeness and healthiness in every part, spirit, soul and body. Nothing and no one can disturb that rest. You, like Christ, can rest and sleep in the boat when a gigantic storm is on. Like Paul you can say: “None of these things move me!”

Doing Good

The old song is so true: “If I can help somebody as I go life’s way, Then my living will not be in vain.” My mum was a generous soul, always ready to bless someone. When my sister got married to a Londoner a young man in His tens came to the event. He fancied moving up Yorkshire and mum put him up as a lodger for a start. He eventually found digs with another elderly couple and married the pianist of the assembly. We have been close friends for yours as a result. Be a helper and discover lasting friendships that bless you more and more.

A Fresh Visitation

Never write an individual or group off because something of great significance and note can occur. When it appears a person or fellowship has had its day due to failure and disappointment, you may be surprised  at what is in store. Think about Peter in his denial of Christ and evident backslidden state. It looked as if he had had it and would be a back number, someone who had missed it. Christ turned up and expressed genuine love and concern and restored him to a place of leadership. It was Peter who led the vanguard in the early beginnings of the Christian Church and never looked back. It could well be the LORD wills to meet up with you and give a new start that will motivate into something of worth and note. You are due for a fresh visit.

Lesson to be Learned

There are times when the LORD makes you eat our own words, when you have to retract from what you have uttered. Whilst courting Joan and going to their loving-open home, which was a large farm house, I spoke something I’ve had to re-call. Her dad was a farm foreman and it was required he have a couple of men lodgers to assist on the farm. In my visits I kind of resisted the presence of these men and vowed it would not happen to us when married. We had a very large manse in Louth and it was there I had to recant. We were called upon to put up all kinds of people unexpectedly and were never free from such and we had to start to raise a family in these conditions. I don’ know how many folks have stayed with us over the years that we have lovingly helped. God called us to give up a large pastorate and manse to look after the students in Mattersey at a moments notice. Joan to cater and oversee the college domestically and I to superintend the premises, finances, lecture and take the students on ministry. It was a demanding time but we have no regrets. He has kept us going into our mid eighty’ and provided for all our needs, and families, too. What more could we want and heaven to come!

Joke to Note

A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon. Four worms were placed into four separate jars.

– The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.

– The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.

– The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup.

– The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the minister reported the following results:

– The first worm in alcohol – Dead.

– The second worm in cigarette smoke – Dead.

– Third worm in chocolate syrup – Dead.

– Fourth worm in good clean soil – Alive.

Just then a little old woman in the back quickly raised her hand and said, “I get it! As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won’t have worms!”

A Promise to being Fulfilled

“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, ‘Yes I have loved you with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn you’.” –  Jer 31:2. You could not be in safer and surer place, loved by Jehovah, the everlasting LORD, who is ever passionate and affectionate towards you. His is an eternal, abiding, continuous love that will fulfil His desires over you. You could not be better placed! Learn to rest and live in His love! Realise it is an ever-present reality. And it is forever!

Doing Good

Joseph was really tested on this. Time and opportunity came when he could have wreaked vengeance on his brothers. They were to be in His hands with no escape. What was he to do in these changed circumstances?  It was obvious to him that his relatives needed to be broken and changed and hostile feelings in himself altered. He manages to come under the thinking and attitude of the LORD so he could get His favour. Because He did so, he was seen at his best in forgiveness. Remorse and renewal took place in them. The end result proved that goodness and sense prevailed and God’ s will succeeded. You must always seek the way of restoration, understanding and doing good. It really pays!

A Fresh Visitation

God has marvellous ways of moving in when all is messed up and appears to be useless and worthless. The prophet, Jeremiah, somewhat despaired when viewing the fallen and corrupt state of His people. The LORD invites him to go into into the potter’s work place to,view Him on his wheel,- Jer 18:1-3. He notes a vessel being made that did not turn out as expected. However, he did not give up but with the same piece of clay created a fresh, attractive and useful vessel. Israel, had failed to respond to the will and actions of God but would never give up. He would visit afresh and renew. Maybe you have messed up your initial privilege and opportunity of making good with and for Him. He is coming now to restore and renew with a bigger objective for your life, position an ministry. Make it count and rise to His noble expectation.

Lesson to be Learned

Learning to really love a soul is quite challenging and demanding. It really did happen to me. In my second pastorate I discovered a young man who had tried to take his own life because of a young woman he really passionately loved had jilted him. I visited him in a hospital that sought to aid him. He valued the encounter. The retired local grammar school teacher heard about it and sent for me being pleased about my action and encouraged to do all I could to help him. The upshot of the story they did get back together and finally married and had a baby. One foggy night as my wife and I returned home, the phone was ringing desperately. On the line was Stuart and he was in a phone box in the town with wife and baby. The mother-in-law had turned them out and now were homeless. Could we help? We already had one couple staying in a large house and so they increased the number.

Providentially someone kindly left a box of groceries and a bag of potatoes on our door-step next morning. During our Bible readings and prayer at night I taught them God would provide a job and home. Within a fortnight this occurred and all were astonished. The story that followed was quite remarkable. Just a few years ago travelling through the estate of that town I saw Stuart outside his own home. As we chatted and entered his home, he and Doris were still together. He said to me: ” whenever I am in difficulty I think of you.” We never know the consequences of truly loving and caring for a soul!

Joke to Note

Why Not?

A reporter was interviewing a man who believed to be the oldest resident in town.

‘May I ask how old you are?’

‘I just turned a hundred this week,’ the old man proudly replied.

‘Great! Do you suppose you’ll see another hundred?’

‘Well,’ said the man thoughtfully, ‘I’m stronger now than when I started the first one hundred!’

THE TENDERIZING LORD – Luke 9:51-56; 10:30-37

HARDNESS: the human heart and mind is capable of unbelieving hardness, where it lacks all true and tender feelings of love and sympathy. Because of this condition it sinks to all kinds of acts of brutality and can be guilty of utter cynicism and indifference. One of the major things that needs to happen is for the tenderizing of the being. In a world that is hard and becoming more hardened by Satan, sin and self, it so easy to remain unmoved and unchanged. There needs to be a hardiness about our lives/work, not hardness. A suppleness present that influences the strength.

MIRACLE: There is this definite need of a divine miracle within the spirit and heart so that we are in state of true tenderness and kindness. In the epistles there is clear directive on this point to those who profess to be genuine receivers of Christ’s nature and believers in Him – Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:12,13. As far as the Lord is concerned there must come a renewal that produces a real alteration in attitude and action. The whole inward condition must become tenderized so that the life, character and person become blessed and useful.

GRACE: It takes a work of grace from within to bring this about. It takes patience, love and understanding and breaking experiences to initiate and establish this essential change in disposition and action. Grace is not an easy option but it is a vital one. God’s grace is able to accomplish this in people provided they desire it and come under its influence and power.

PROCESS: Whilst there may well be an initial crisis to effect the transformation, there is often a long process for the full development of this quality. It is the mind of the Lord who is tender to tenderize all of His People by various means and measures. All will be challenged in some way of other by Him to see this birthed and realized to the full.

One of the things that are required is an unveiling of what we are truly like from within. Christ taught this parable of the two people at prayer to expose the condition of heart that any person can get into. The publican had become humbled by his sin and was in a repentant and tender state of being. In contrast is the Pharisee who is hardened in his pride, arrogance and self-importance. There has to come the true searchlight of God to make clear the real state within. Unless we know ourselves we shall never experience the change that must take place.

Face to face with Christ and an a pure understanding of Him causes us to hear and see what He is like Himself and what are the requirements He has of and for us. He sets the standard and seeks to inspire and bring about the same in us. He said: “Come . . . learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart . . .” He wants that which is of Himself to enter into us so that we might reflect His mind and heart set. Although there was much set against Him to harden He refused it because His inward disposition was divinely tuned and toned.

Two of His disciples, James and John, expressed a very unfavourable attitude in the presence of the Lord and were mildly rebuked by Him. Because the Samaritans had failed to receive Him they thought it was time for God to wreak vengeance upon the population v54. As far as Christ was concerned it was an unseemly thing to say and needed to be rebuked. There is the quick affirmation of His nature and mission to put things into proper perspective – v56.

This can be proven in many instances in the Scriptures. David needed to be restrained from becoming hard and taking the law of retribution into his own hands. The Lord used Abigail to stop him on an errand that could have fouled up his life and calling. Nabal may be hard but the Lord did not want His future king reduced to brutality etc. She stepped in and with wise counsel tenderized him at a needful point in time. One of the reasons why Elisha may have come alongside Elijah was to bring some tenderizing in his being.

This person who was destined to function in a very distinguished role had to go through severe and serious trials to make him and ministry effectual. There may have been the wrong sort of edge on him in his earliest days and there was a need for some spiritual change. Through servitude, loss of seeming honour, being placed with the prisoners etc., the Lord wrought a marvellous change. He ultimately was confronted with the ones responsible for the seeming harm and had to be tender towards them. The hammerings of life are part of the process.

This is to be a principal virtue and quality in those who would aspire to be of any real value to God and His kingdom enterprise. He seeks people who are can be tender and gentle with others so that all hardness is removed from His kingdom. He does not want those who represent Him to be brutal or that His subjects be brutalized in any way.

Daily Messages – E. Anderson

A Promise to be Fulfilled

“The LORD your God which goeth before you, He shall fight for you, according to all that He did for you in Egypt. And in the wilderness where you have seen how that the LORD your God bear you, as a man doth bear His son, in all the way that you went, until you came into this place” – Deut 1:30,3. He is with from start to finish, going before you, fighting your battles, carrying you when necessary and bringing you into the Promised Land of blessing. What more you want? He is sufficient to meet, minister and direct from earth to heaven. Just trust and prove him to be true.

Doing Good

A memorable incident that reflects ‘doing good’ is portrayed in Ruth. When death robbed her mother-in-law, sister-in-law and herself of their husbands, she rises to demonstrate kindness on a great scale. She goes to assist her mother-in-law to pick up the pieces and help yo make a fresh start. It certainly meant hard work at first to try and make ends meet as she went to toil in the field to gather grain. Her good deed was not by-passed by heaven or earth. Fortunes change as Boaz a relative became a kins-man redeemer and husband. A Royal and Messianic line was born that was to bless the world. What an amazing amount of good was initiated! Small beginnings but great endings!

A Fresh Visitation

Where can you find fresh inspiration in a graveyard? Is it possible for something extraordinarily to happen in such lifeless circumstances? The Lord literally took His servant Ezekiel, into the most deadliest conditions to teach him He was the God of resurrection and power and such were not a problem to Him – Ezekiel 37. This prophet’s faith and hopes needed to be lifted into a new dimension of dynamic life. He saw a graveyard transformed by the breath of God’s life and word. So you, too, can move into this knowledge and working. You are called to be a minister of life and transformation by these means. Start, through, God speaking into the most negative states from today and them electrified from above.

Lesson to Learn

Learning to witness for Christ is important. That is what Christ has called and wants you to be. Even in a difficult environment the Christian life and light must shine. In my early teens I trained as a fitter and turner in the famous Doncaster Plant Works where steam engines were made. From the start I quietly nailed my colours to the mast. Men and young men knew my testimony to Christ. Although I did not see conversions take place I was appreciated as ‘Holy Ern’. Many years later in an open service I was approached by a young man who was there at the Plant Works at the same time. He left, so he said, just as I had done but joined the Merchant Navy  and it was there he found Christ. His greeting to me was that he had shared the fact of my witness wherever he had gone. What a pleasure was felt by me that day that my witness had not been a failure!

Jokes to Note

A lady noticed her husband standing on the bathroom scale, sucking in his stomach.

Thinking he was trying to weigh less with this manoeuvre, she commented, “I don’t think that’s going to help.”

“Sure it does,” he said. “It’s the only way I can see the numbers.”

A Promise to be Fulfilled

Christ said: “What things so ever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them” – Mark 11:24. When your life is synchronised with Christ in life, faith and obedience He will make all the difference to your praying. You will know what He wills for you to ask for of an incredible order and answers will be forthcoming. Your confidence in Him and His word will grow and cause you to grow and your testimony. You will learn to live in the realm of the impossible. Launch out today in Him and through prayer and faith discover the good and great things to be wrought.

Doing Good

Although Joseph’s brothers treated him badly he was to be given the opportunity to negate this by positive kindness. The time came at a future date when he had them at his mercy. For a while it seems that he was in dilemma as what to finally do when the tables were turned. He was able to expose them for what they were, reveal the exceeding goodness of God to them all and then shower them with favour and good will. They all had to learn the lesson of life that it is imperative to express kindness even in extreme conditions to extreme people. When they were at his mercy, he showed mercy. Emulate his example today.

A Fresh Visitation

When the LORD visits you afresh the renewal that takes place within you to being different and to pursue new pathways and goals that will be more rewarding. Change will be an inevitability, possibly suddenly or over a period of time. A newness of vision and expectation will be birthed and this will consummate transformed living, believing  and procedure. The past will have served somewhat in readiness for an entirely new chapter and phase that will altogether impressive. Without a fresh visitation you will become static and stagnant and exist in a rut. So, rise and begin to seek God anew for what He has next for you.

Lesson to Learn

An outstanding virtue to be possessed is that of patience. Quietly and confidently waiting for developments to take place oft requires this unique quality. It would seem that this is what God endeavours to create and cultivate and often inexplicable things of a nature occur to bring such about. In a moment it can occur. One evening last year my wife passed me a cup of Verdot coffee. At that moment I had an unexplainable black out and spilled the hot cup of coffee over the top part of my left leg. What a  mess it created! Gashes were manifest and gently over many months I have had to tend this thing with Suda cream. One wondered whether it would ever be finally restored. Through days, weeks and moths of patience pleased to affirm it is almost healed. God was working on and in me to produce a better mind and heart set that would be profitable in the days ahead. May be this incident may be helpful to you if you find yourself similarly placed.

This is a simple test to determine ordinary response,’ the psychiatrist told his patient. ‘What would happen if I cut off your left ear?’

‘I couldn’t hear.’

‘And what would happen if I then cut off your right ear?’

‘I couldn’t see.’

‘Why did say that?’

‘Because my hat would fall over my eyes.’

The doctor turned from the telephone and said to his wife, ‘I must hurry to Mrs Jones’s boy – he is sick’.

‘Is it serious?’

‘Yes. I don’t know what is the matter with him, but she has a book on what to do before the doctor comes. So I must hurry. Whatever it is, she must not do it.’
