THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

In order to be an interesting person in whom others reveal a great deal of interest, you need to develop as much as possible interest in others and in things of worth and significance. The Lord has given you both a natural and spiritual life to be exploited to the full so that it becomes expressive, meaningful and capturing the attention, admiration and inspiration of onlookers. Being switched on to you and your attainments begets in them awareness that they too have abilities and qualities to be revealed and released. The consequence: each day and the world becomes a truly interesting place to live in and become more interesting. Of course, God is to be your real interest and pursuit, for in this engagement there are immense and eternal possibilities to be manifest.

DAILY MEDITATION

A GRIEVING REMNANT – Ezekiel 9

In the face of the coming destruction it became obvious that God’s servant was concerned about the people who could not be categorized with the wicked sinners. There was a question in his mind and heart that required an answer. “Ah, Sovereign Lord! Are you going to destroy the entire remnant of Israel in the outpouring of your wrath upon Jerusalem?” – v8. This shows that he sensed that there were those around who were not happy about the evil trends that were prevalent.  There were those who were different, although in the minority, who were truly saddened at the demise of the spiritual leaders and the waywardness of the nation.

Something ought to be done to rescue these folk from such a terrible prospect. It would seem that the Lord already had this hand when sending out His messenger among the people. The command was given in v4 – “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done it.” The Lord is to show His mercy upon the people who object to what is being practiced and the mark was to be a means of identification and salvation. A preservation order was being placed on them to secure their safety.

The Lord is mindful of all and knows the people who sincerely grieve and are burdened about the evils that are perpetrated. There is no way that they are to be subjected to death but are to be wonderfully saved in such an hour of judgment. At a time when so much is being wrought of a wicked character and order it is imperative that we show and express our thoughts and feelings both Godward and man-ward. If we expect to be saved in the hour of judgment, then this must be so.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Make sure as you come to the closure of the year that you end well. The best way is to be open to Him and to be and to do things a little different. The next months can hold some very lovely surprises as you approach them with Him in love and faith. He is never exhausted of fresh and commendable events and experiences that will change you and your perspectives into something more fulfilling. Let Him re-arrange affairs if need to be so that these things can occur. Do not shape your life, behaviour and activity according to those around but let heaven get a look in to give a unique revelation of what you can become and the places you can go and blessed situations to effectively deal with. You will be amazed as you bestir yourself in the way He desires as to the ultimate outcome. Remember, the opportunity is yours, NOW!

DAILY MEDITATION

SEEING THINGS AS THEY ARE – Ezekiel 8

This was quite a vivid and learning experience for the prophet. The Lord knew what the prophet was thinking and so arranged this unique unveiling of what was taking place in Jerusalem especially within His sanctuary. His servant was under the idea that the people and things there was not as bad as was being presented by the Lord. Possibly too much was being made out of nothing! But Ezekiel needed to know the truth and so he was suddenly laid hold of and transported to the heart of things and given a true disclosure of the evils there.

Having seen the majesty of the Lord’s presence v4, he is acquainted, in contrast, with the goings on within the divine sanctuary. He must have been shocked to the core as he saw first hand the wickedness being carried out there. Abominable practices of idol worship were being performed in the place that ought to have been totally sanctified to the Lord. Step by step, in a planned procedure, he was shown more and more the terrible acts of those who professed to lead the people. After this revelation he was convinced that the Lord had got everything right.

How easy it is to try and lessen things in relation to evil and to get the idea that the situation is not really bad or evil at all! This is one of the ploys of the devil: to circulate the conception that things are okay when they are really atrocious. He would numb the sense of the spiritual and godly. It is essential to know this truth because the personal life must be safeguarded. Also, there needs to be intercessory prayer engaged to plead for a spiritual awakening. Further, action and protest needs to be rightly adopted in a powerful manner.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

The Christian life and experience is intended to be a dynamic one. This can be gathered surely from the words that Christ himself used and offered to create and cultivate, He said: “I am come you might have life and that you might have it more amore abundantly” – John 10:10. This implies and indicates that He has more than in mind than merely existing and getting through life with extreme difficulty. Whilst there are some tall orders and demanding situations to be confronted, what He gives far outweighs such. They are conquered by His inward dwelling and resource. Unless you constantly relate to and draw from His eternal reserves there will be no dominant drive or dynamic to take you progressively forward in 2018. Christ is ever up to and for it. Are you? May you discover the answer now and always is Him. He is your LIFE!

DAILY MEDITATION

THE END HAS COME – Ezekiel 7

Repeatedly this message is sounded again and again at the forepart of this chapter – “the end has come”. No longer was the Lord prepared to withhold His prophetic word of judgment. There had been tremendous effort put in by His and the messengers He had sent to prevent this happening, but it was impossible to stop the inevitable. This was not something that He had desired or wanted to take place, but it needed to register with His people that the awful day had arrived when the price of evil would be paid.

The portrayed end would be very painful as sword, plague and famine invade and make their presence known. The population would be reduced to utter impotence and feel absolutely limp and weak under the onslaught. All their prosperity would not be able to save them from the destructive forces of evil that would come to attack. They would be completely vulnerable to become victims to the malicious work of evils factors. It was to be a very dark period in the life and history of this nation that should have behaved better.

In some respects, it would seem that we are in the end times as so many things are occurring that are of a horrifying nature. Christians must wake up to their responsibility of living as the Lord has revealed and become a witness to the outside world as to what is to happen next. Do not allow anyone or anything to take you off guard but be ready for the coming of the Lord. He will soon be here!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

One of the secrets of living successfully and to the maximum knows how to unwind and take the tension out of our affairs and daily living. If a string on a violin is stretched too much it will snap and be of no further use and so the instrument is ineffective. Somehow we must discover and implement the art of tempering down, to pull aside and take some spiritual life and forces so there is a quiet but dynamic renewal. Christ now how to pull out of a demanding scene and keep His inward state healthy and so became up to every day and occasion. Being up front all the time is not good enough for you. God has no tensions and manages to run and sustain a. universe. Add this to you faith and conduct and you will be a better person and accomplish more.

DAILY MEDITATION

KNOWING THE LORD – Ezekiel 6

Repeatedly in this section the statement is made: “and they will know that I am the these stubborn, hard and blind people that the reason why they are in such a dreadful state was due to their utter neglect and commitment to the Lord. The price that was to be paid for their shocking conduct would be desolation, death and the seeming desertion of the Lord. In such a short time they would be bereft of everything and at the mercy of a power that would not seek their good. They would be victims of a nation that would not benefit them whatsoever.

But the end of the process would be good and right: they would discover the Lord, the one that ought to have been recognized throughout. He was to be the main priority and first consideration because stemming from this knowledge was all their blessedness. It was not a detrimental factor but the most important thing of all because it was in and through Him all their destiny existed. The judgment would waken them up and bring them to a divine consciousness that would take them forward into a new era of life that would be utterly beneficial.

Sometimes the Lord permits the worst tragedies to occur in order to birth real sense amongst people. When things go wrong and people are desolated it often is a wake up call to seek and find the Lord once again. The pursuit of the natural and material and indulgence in the carnal pleasures of this life often place Him on the outside, so the need to made to realize that such are not the real issues of life. It is necessary for all to see that the Lord assumes His rightful place within the life on a daily basis and so be spared from the route of divine judgment.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

There is ever the need for fresh assessment with regard to our lives in an honest and humble manner, to note if there is any improvement with regard to our characters for the good, to view what we have done in making some contribution to the world we live in. A good appraisal can trigger off something inside that motivates to something better, higher and grander. Spend a little time with yourself over the next day or so because it creates something that is going to make a world of difference in the months ahead. In fact, could start a noble train re-action in many others you associate with to lasting good. Thank God the blessings of progress over the past twelve months but there is that to be achieved of significance and worth.

DAILY MEDITATION

A DEFILED SANCTUARYEzekiel 5

The prophet was made to see the awful judgment that was to fall upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and it was all because of the sins that had been committed. There had been intense transgression on their part especially in relation to the Holy Sanctuary of the Lord that existed there. The charge made was given in v11- “Therefore as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your vile images and detestable practices, I Myself will withdraw my favour.” How badly they had behaved concerning the dwelling place of the Lord in the midst of them!

God’s people of that day had felt they could allow the worship of all kinds of gods within the place that had been sanctified to the worship of Jehovah alone. Instead of being true to Him, they had introduced the belief and acknowledgement of the foreign deities of other nations in spite of the clear teaching and revelation contained in the law of the Lord. In no way could the Lord permit any rival. He alone was God and had proved it undeniably in their history. In point of fact, they would have had no identity or prospect but for Him. He had a perfect right to be angry and judge them in this way in the withdrawal of His favour.

The teaching of the New Testament is that the Christian Church is the New Sanctuary of God and every believer also is a temple in which God is to dwell – 1 Corinthians 6: 19,20. Those who are Christ’s have been washed and cleansed by His precious blood and have become filled with the Holy Spirit of God. This being the case, it is imperative that all know how to keep the sanctuary in a pure and holy estate. No one can afford to act irresponsibly with their lives or bodies because they will be held responsible. Keep free from the defilement of sin.

SERMON FOR THE WEEK

THE RESTORING LORD – JOHN 21

FAILURE: Humanity and society is just one great, huge scrap heap. The sons of men have become degenerate and in some cases wrecks as sin and evil has taken its toll. Man has failed to achieve anything in the terms of real, divine quality and character and in relation to pure and true destiny. There may be things that before each other look outstandingly good, but measured against what could be in and through the Lord, there is nothing but failure. In taking note concerning all one could ask the question: is there any hope of restoration and realization to divine calling and destiny?

GRACE: Above all, there is an utter dependency upon divine grace to affect something worthwhile out of this tragic and extreme situation. If anything of any worth is to occur and of major significance it will require an act of God to do and He is must be gracious and willing enough to do it. Thankfully, He is the God of all grace. He must want to perform a work of restoration. There is much to turn Him off but He is will to undertake to work on this project.

POWER: But also, He must have the ability to do it. Has He got the wherewithal in skill, patience and time to work in and with mankind to transform the whole wrecked state? He is not lacking on this front. At His disposal are all the means in and of Himself to bring about a fantastic alteration that leaves all concerned in a condition of wonder and worship.

EXTENT: There is no limit to what He can and will do in and with the individual that allows Him access and action. He can move in on any life and utterly renew by His grace and power and make that life acceptable and give a calling and destiny of infinite worth.

1/. HE RESTORES THE DESTINY THAT HE HAD BESTOWED IN REVELATION – GENESIS 41

To a young man, who could have thought that his life and career was finished, (after such a promised start in divine revelation and a good impetus on the way), incarcerated in prison, the Lord was able to prove He could bring him out of jail and raise him to a unique status.

2/. HE RESTORES A FAILURE IN ORDER TO MAKE HIM A UNIQUE DELIVERER – EXODUS 3

Moses had reached an age and situation in his life where he really must have felt a failure. He had been schooled in all of the arts and skills of the Egyptians and here he is just a shepherd looking after his father-in-law’s sheep. Even the flock was not his own! It appeared as if he had no future but the Lord was to change all that in one divine encounter.

3/. HE RESTORES THE FORTUNES OF A NATION IN HOPELESS CAPTIVITY – EXODUS 12-14

The nation that seemed to be destined and enslaved forever is to have its whole future changed. The Lord was to embrace them in an act of redemption and release them from the tyranny they were in. He was also to school them in His ways and bless in every way. It all occurred miraculously and swiftly..

4/. HE RESTORES THE PERSON WHO HAD FALLEN GREATLY INTO SIN – PSALMS 32; 51

To a man who He had valued so much and let Him down so badly, the Lord reveals that His grace, mercy and power are so infinite that He can renew following the deep work of repentance. The sin of David should not be under-estimated. It was a foul deed in every way. The outstanding fact is the way the Lord was willing to restore.

5/. HE RESTORES THE HEALTH OF ONE WHO WAS AT DEATH’S DOOR – JOB 42

From the natural standpoint one would never have given any hopes whatsoever with regard to a recovery for this man. He had been literally reduced to skin and bones and life expectancy was greatly reduced. The pessimism of his so-called friends would not be helpful either. But the Lord was gracious and able! There comes a unique and bountiful manifestation of divine intervention that honours and blesses His servant.

6/. HE RESTORES THE DISCIPLE WHO DENIED HIM TO GREAT APOSTLESHIP – JOHN 21

Peter had been a real let-down at the crisis hour in the life of Christ. His denial just showed what he was capable of. As he is at a loose end he goes fishing. Familiar ground and work. The Lord shows up and performs a loving act of challenge and change. Peter was never going to be the same again.

7/. HE RESTORES THE YOUNG MAN WHO MISSSED OUT ON HIS FIRST MISSIONS EFFORT – ACTS 13:13

This young man was attracted to the role of being in the initial missionary team but on the outgoing trip is dis-allusioned. He cannot stand the pace and demand and returns home. He wasn’t to terminate his days in this condition. A new opportunity was given to him and he makes good in spite of an apostle’s original idea of him. Later, even he has to change his mind – 2 Timothy 4:11

The restoring work of the Lord brings great honour and glory to Him as both life and work are renewed to the best possible level and effect.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Let the blessings of Christmas remain with you and move onward. The miracle of Christ’s advent was to be ‘Emmanuel’ – ‘God with us’ and that is to be a permanent feature and fact. This no short-lived, temporary consideration! He is to make a difference today and every day. You have to grasp the reality of the truth that He is always around to influence life and living. Dependency on Him is the best thing that could ever happen to you. Never will you be at the mercy of circumstances and situations for He is ever at hand to provide the right answer. Remember His final word of promise to His disciples:”Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age” – Matt 28:20. What more could desire than the Perfect Companion who unselfishly cares about you and present and eternal situation! You have been chosen to enjoy the best of both worlds, the now and the eternal hereafter.

DAILY MEDITATION

SUPERNATURAL REVELATION – Ezekiel 4

His first task was one that would be quite demanding and revealing at the same time. His start was rather tough and exacting but by divine grace and strength he was enabled to achieve. He was called upon to portray Jerusalem under great siege and conflict thus showing to his compatriots what was actually occurring in their homeland. They needed to realize that things were not going very well at the sacred city and that it would fall into the hands of their oppressors.

The fact of this up-to-date supernatural disclosure ought to make them sense and see the truth especially as they saw the lengths to which the messenger had to go to make it known. He was no charlatan and neither was his message some personal, trumped-up idea. Everyone in Israel had to know that things were to go badly for them before there would be any remedy or change. If they could but realize it, the nation was being divinely judged because of the evil behaviour that had been existent over a long period of time. The revelation showed the problem.

There was a tremendous price to be paid by the Lord’s servant in order to convey truth that was relevant to His people. He was in the ministry not for the fun of it but because there were serious things to be dealt with. There is a need to take on board the conditions of the world at large and our nation in particular. How necessary it is that messages are conveyed that bring the stark reality before the people so that they can see things as they really are! God is a God of revelation and would give the apt and appropriate insight in to how things are and stand.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

A very, blessed Christmas Day to you all! The word ‘blessed’ is a far different one to happiness or merriment, but it could include such in its expression. To be blessed especially by God is the supreme delight of life. To have a Blessed Christmas means that you have a blessed Saviour, Lord and Friend to bless you in a marvellous fashion. Christ is God’s gift of life with all of its further bestowments to embellish not only with happiness and merriment but to add joy, zest, quality to everyday living. As God the Son He steps into your now situation in order to create a very blessed state from which you are to live and serve. Because He is Emmanuel, ‘God with us’ now, under His inspiration, presence and enrichment He makes every day a Christmas Day. Blessed to bless others always in unusual ways!

DAILY MEDITATION

AN INESCAPABLE DUTYEzekiel 3

In reading between the lines, in this chapter, it seems that Ezekiel would have liked to have escaped from this solemn and sacred duty. As it began to dawn upon him, the full extent of his mission and ministry, he somehow was disturbed and greatly agitated. It declares in v14 “and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit.” The job the Lord had assigned was not seemingly pleasant and would be highly demanding. His initial response was not too good. When he saw where the people were and what they had experienced, and he, too, he reacted somewhat adversely.

But he could not escape from the Lord or from his spiritual and moral responsibility. This people needed the light of God’s word to truly light up their situation. Although he would have to give some difficult, heart-searching messages to start with that would be hard hitting, there would later comes addresses that would fire the nation with hope. The Lord’s hand upon him made him a captive to the great assignment. He would not be able to shake off the irresistible power of that hand that would strengthen and aid to great heights of ministry.

The Lord never expects any He would employ to treat Himself or the task assigned to them with indifference and apathy. He would rather that the first response be like that of Ezekiel. Like him, such people are the ones that become fired up with God and His words so that they become an irresistible power and influence. Later on, there is gratefulness that the calling has been fulfilled to maximum benefit. In the summons of the Lord upon your life, do not linger either in resentment or lethargy but rise to serve your generation and be His true messenger.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

At year this occasion of the year we cannot help consider the wonder of the Winter Season, of the frost and snow, dark nights etc. But then we are compelled to consider the wonders of Christmas. Notice, I used the wonder in the plural. So much of an extraordinary nature happened of an amazing order. There is the staggering revelation of God’s love for a fallen sinful race. The incarnation of Christ exposes the incredible passion that God has for mankind. There is the exception wonder of God being able to contract himself to a a span in a woman’s womb to become a man. The fact that He took on human form is something that is mind-blowing and that He was prepared to live in a body to minister gratuitously to mankind. The great wonder that He came in order to be the ultimate sacrifice for sin is beyond human comprehension. He came wih the cross in view. As Charles Wesley put it in his famous hymn: “Amazing love! How can it be? That thou my God should die for me.” Christmas gives you every reason, to wonder, ponder and worship!

DAILY MEDITATION

DIVINELY COMMISSIONEDEzekiel 2

At the outset this man was given a divine commission and sent on a major errand for the Lord. He was to become His mouthpiece in his generation for the Lord. He was to be made aware of the people who he would have to address and bring the messages of God to. The prophet was not to be a missionary to other nations but to his own people. In the midst of the new situation that they were in, as captives in Babylon, they needed to have an up-to-date revelation from the Lord as to what was happening and what was to be. In their confused state they needed to hear afresh from the Lord as to what was on the agenda.

It was made clear to God’s man and messenger that the task would not be an easy one because of the rebellious mind and mood of the people. Although they had been sadly reduced to this state of captivity, there was a tremendous amount of resentment and insurgence existent. False prophets were prevalent spouting their ideas and messages. His job would be to make sure they heard from the Lord and that could only be as he was in the place to hear and show spiritual nerve and courage. The word to him from the Lord was: “You must speak My words to them” – v7.

The whole Christian Church has been divinely commissioned to speak the prophetic word into nations. All are responsible to become messengers and to communicate the true message of the Gospel to all men. The Lord has apprehended each believer to be a witness and mouthpiece for Him, to make all men know God and His plans for the world in and through Christ. Begin to realize that you are under divine obligation to be a herald for Christ and by the power of the Spirit to give the words of Christ to this generation. As you fulfil your part, the Lord will do His.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Whilst it is vital and great to meditate on the incredible ability of God to become man, to take on human form, and is a source of wonder and amazement, we must realize why it happened. Whilst the incarnation was an incredible revelation of His almighty power, it all occurred because of His nature, God is love. He so loved humanity that He wanted to become like it and be as close as possible to this creation. The best way was to become the Son of Man. In so doing, He made and makes it possible for the sons of God to become the sons of God. What a blessed privilege is bestowed on mankind! You cannot afford to miss out on being born again and become a member of God’s choice family. The Bible says. “As many as received Christ to them He gave the power or right to become a son of God” – John 1:10,11. It could not be plainer or simpler!

DAILY MEDITATION

THE HAND OF THE LORD – Ezekiel 1

There is a phrase of great worth that is repeated throughout the prophecy of Ezekiel; it is the “hand of the Lord”. It is relevantly mentioned in the opening chapter in v3. This servant of God had been apprehended by the Babylonians and taken as a captive from his homeland, Judah in Israel, to live by the river Chebar in Babylon. That had been a very difficult experience to face and deal with. He also must have been saddened at the way things had gone for God’s people and what the outcome would be. What did the future hold?

He was suddenly visited by the Lord and arrested in a divine manner by the hand of the Lord and made a spiritual captive to the Lord and His purposes. There was given an amazing disclosure of the Lord right in that heathen land and He was made to see and know that, in spite of the problems, the Lord was aware of all and in control. His throne ruled in the affairs of His people and men. The hand of the Lord was to impart strength to Him and enable him to conduct an effectual ministry of great value to His kinsmen in a difficult period.

One of the most precious things that any servant of the Lord can experience is the touch and knowledge of the hand of the Lord upon them. It signifies His presence in the first instance and also inspires with a sense of divine anointing for mission. When a person has been laid hold of by God it becomes apparent because of the things that follow. The Lord is still able to place His hand upon individual lives and cause them to rise to ministry and service of an extraordinary character. As you seek Him, He will cause His hand to rest upon you to fulfil the destiny of your life.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Amidst all the demands that are yours, make certain that the Lord is not squeezed out of the Christmas Celebration. Do not treat Him as a thing but recognise that He is the most important and necessary person in your life. If you are to be preserved, provided for, guided and assisted and then granted an eternal, heavenly home, surely He must figure as primary in all your hours and affairs. He stands by ready to give the fullest, best and blessed assistance and ministry that will be to your total advantage. You cannot afford to leave Him to exist on the perimeter. Give Him the biggest and best Christmas present – your total self. Let Jesus Christ top the bill.

DAILY MEDITATION

DO YOU TRULY LOVE ME? – John 21

This question was put three times to Peter following his personal denial and time of backsliding. It is very obvious that Christ went out of His way to reclaim this big fisherman and see him restored into a vital relationship with Him-self. Peter had denied his Lord three times, hence the emphasis here. Christ was plumbing the inward being of this man who was to play a key role in the building of His kingdom. How necessary it was that there should be birthed in him at this time a divine passion and courage that would not fail in the coming days! Although Peter had reacted badly, the Lord stilled loved him and knew that there was a real love in Peter for Him.

The opportunity would be given to Peter to not only express his love but to demonstrate it in a definite manner. He would be handed the responsibility of caring for the Flock of God, for the lambs and the sheep. The love of the Good Shepherd would be poured in and become manifest in the coming days in loving labour for Christ. Now He could see the whole picture. It was needful for Christ to die but that He was greater than death. A new commission was now bestowed in spite of his failure. He could break out with a greater love and devotion.

What concerns Christ above all else with regard to those who are His disciples is their love for Him. He still comes to challenge the love of those who profess to own Him as Lord and still comes to those who fail with renewed commission. There is a task for you to perform for Him but it must be done through the right inspiration – divine love. May you be able to answer this question as Peter did -v17.
