The old grand-father clock with its beautiful brass face has to be wound up daily to do its task. So you have to learn through God to be daily wound up and gradually and with precision unwound over the next hours. You are one of God’s timepieces and others need to read God’s time through you. You were never made by Him to live in an erratic manner. As you maintain a constant union and communion with the Holy Spirit and God’s Word, so you will be kept in prim condition, ticking over gently, giving sense and reason to those around. The clock does not make a great noise but does its job well. So keep wound up by God and the unwinding take place and its proper pace and all will be well.

“Rejoice evermore. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ concerning you” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16,17

One should never cease daily to go through the gates of thanksgiving and worship and praise the Lord with a grateful heart. It works wonders. It is good to remember that the tea kettle, although up to its neck in hot water, continues to sing.

Whilst there are positive spiritual factors to be introduced into one new nature received from Christ, there are things that belong to the old sinful and carnal nature that have to be put off, removed from one’s being and behaviour. Paul said to the saints at Ephesus “That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts – Eph 4:22. It should become obvious that Christ has renewed you and that the Holy Spirit is in charge and that you are conforming to the standards that God’s Word reveal. It is essential to identify them and see that they have no place in our faith and conduct.

“all clamour and evil speaking” – Ephesians 4: 31. Clamour is defined as ‘loud and continuous shouting or calling out’. One could describe such as being big and loud mouthed and the evil speaking surely refers to speaking badly of others and running them down before other people. It reveals that such as to be got rid off because they are a detriment and liability to a person who professes to be a Christian. The mouth has to be sanctified and to be under perfect control, calm and collected and uttering words that are becoming, acceptable and a blessing. The new nature of Christ is intended to renew the within so that it absolutely in charge of all that is uttered. May your mouth a blessing today> Learn to be quiet and when to speak.

Both the prophet and Israel were to be instructed in the house of the potter. God’s servant was told to go and visit this skilled artisan and see him at work producing vessels and works of clay on the potter’s wheel. Jeremiah saw him create some choice things for use in the home.  The Lord then conveyed the truth that He, the Lord, is the Master Potter and that His people are His creation. What He had been doing over the passage of time was to bring into being a unique household that would reflect His creative skills. All His time, energy and wisdom went into this supreme purpose.

The vital thing necessary for this to come to pass as expressed in this simple imagery: the clay had to be both malleable and mouldable in the hands of the potter. Even the most skilled artisan could not achieve much if the clay was resistant in its nature. The problem with Israel at that time was the rebellious spirit that existed and so there was no alternative but to discard and reject her. Her refusal to comply with His loving and tender handling meant that she would have to be laid aside until this was changed. She missed out because of rebellion.

In the work of Christian conversion the spirit of a person is divinely renewed and from that point there must be a willing compliance to the working of the potter in the shaping of the life so that it may achieve its destiny. He is present with purposeful intent, through His grace, wisdom and power to create a life and work that is worthy of divine accreditation and usefulness. It is imperative that all the stubbornness be out of your being so that He can readily and easily bring to pass His choice designs in and for you and to His glory. Submit to His gracious hands.
