You must realise above all things, on a daily basis, that you are actually now a child and son of God. You are a vital member of God’s Family and He is now your real, Heavenly Father. You are now the subject of His care and through prayer you can know and live with His favour and providence. There is no room for anxiety or fear under His wing!

“Honour the Lord by giving the first part of all your income, and he will fill your barns with wheat and barley and overflow your wine vats with finest wines” – Proverbs 3: 9, 10. If you want the best you must first give Him the best!

Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. A good word in Christian thought and experience is ‘possibility’ and this refers primarily to the knowledge and understanding that God seeks to impart to those who have a daily dynamic accord with Him. Those who really know and relate to God believe in His supreme power, that He can do anything. God the Father desires that His offspring through Christ will know how to perform in similar fashion.

He set out from his home under the threat of death from his twin-brother, Esau. It would seem that he is thrown into a difficult set of circumstances where everything in front of him was uncertain and very problematic. God met him when he was alone trying to get night’s rest in the open. He was given a unique dream and made to see that he was not alone but heaven was interested in his future welfare. As a consequence of this experience, he made a promise and commitment to God.

The immediate and ensuing future would really put this to the test. The Lord was with him managing his affairs and caused him to prosper in a remarkable manner, building up a large family and making him prosperous to the dismay of his relatives. There would come the moment when God work the impossible and work a miracle change in him. He had a further night encounter – Genesis 32: 23, 24. As a result, he had a name change from Jacob to Israel, prince with God.

The miracles that God loves to do are to with people, to see them wonderfully transformed in nature and behaviour. Nothing pleases him more than to witness radical change in people that reveal godly qualities. He did this for Peter, James and John and wills to do the same for you. He will work with and on you until you begin to evidence the qualities and virtues of His Son, Jesus Christ. Allow His to perfect that which concerns you!

True love stories never have endings – Richard Bach

They regarded themselves as a very pious people but God held a different opinion and He was not afraid to say so. He exposed their wicked behaviour and told them of their sins – vv1-5. How needful it was that they were shown their wrongdoing and to make it obvious that all their so-called religious activity was worthless. God was not interested one iota in all their religious performances because there were basic factors missing that He rated highly. In all their conduct there was a dominant selfishness even in their devout rituals. There was wrong motivation at the heart of their seeming sacred actions.

The call is to attend to the needy all around and to make sure that they are provided for. The hungry must be fed, the naked clothed, the oppression cease towards others and lying, gossiping and spreading rumours end. A cleansing will occur and from it a new day will dawn bringing divine blessing. Divine protection will come and they will experience answers to prayer on a scale they have never known before. They will be shown His guidance and their cities will grow. He affirms, “you will be like a watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring” – v11.

There are occasions when Christians must cross-examine their personal lives to ascertain whether they are lining up to God’s precepts. Simply going through accepted Christian observances is not enough. If God is to be real and there is to be a manifestation of His favour in every way then attention must be given to what He requires. It is essential to have genuine social concern and spiritual commitment to others both inside and outside the Christian community. When Christians heed these requirements, their future prospects in God could not be better.
