AN IN MESSAGE FOR TODAY

The more that the Lord has bestowed upon you by gift and grace’ so He expects the best of returns for the bestowments given. He is ever inside and alongside you to see that you achieve the maximum and not the minimum. He will open you up and out  more and more as you allow His to preside at all times.

WISE WORDS

Learn as much as you can and apply the things that you have wisely learned and reaped the benefits and blessings of wisdom. Remember, you are never too old to learn.

Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. In the next few days we will be considering ‘patience” If there is one thing that history and present day living teaches us, it is this: we live in a world of where there is a demand for a great deal of patience. It is that superb quality that brings calm, composure and balance and enables a person to wait and plan for the outworking of factors to highest good. The sin of impatience often ruins things and the person concerned. So it is a factor that such figure high in our thoughts and creation.

PATIENCE TO PUT UP WITH EVIL OF OTHERS – Numbers 13-14

The will to endure by Joshua and Caleb is one of the remarkable testimonies in Old Testament history. They witnessed how their kith and kin that had been miraculously delivered from Egypt, preserved in the wilderness, in a condition of constant sin and rebellion against the Lord. They refused to believe although they had seen much. These two God-fearing men had to put up with, like Jehovah, the awful evil of Israel. They patiently endured the bad manners of these ungrateful, unbelieving folks alongside of them.

It must have been that they drew upon the patience of the Lord through such a provocative time. They did not allow the sinful attitude to get inside of them to destroy what they had in God. They refused to permit the sinister forces of sin to cloud their vision and expectations in and from God. They held firm and true knowing that if held on they would see the blessing consequences of their calm confidence.

They survived by faith and patience and were ready at the right time to give the inspired leadership and take the folks into the Promised Land. Because they patiently endured with God, they were suited to be the vanguard of taking the renewed generation into their inheritance. Others blew their opportunities. Not them because they rested in the fact that God would not fail. So be patient even if those around you are otherwise and would seek to pervert you. Stay patient with God and you will be justly rewarded.

DAILY MEDITATIONS

CARRIED BY GOD – Isaiah 46

A stark contrast is drawn at this point between the gods of the Babylonians and Israel’s God, Jehovah. Highlighted is the fact that their false deities have to be drawn around on carriages to be displayed to their worshippers.  As the attendants carry them they are bowed down under the weight of them. Mention also is made relative to the sham deity – “It cannot even move! And when someone prays to it, there is no answer. It has no power to get anyone out of trouble” – v7 (New Living Translation). Elijah, in his day, in confrontation with the false prophets made a mockery of their phoney gods and showed how helpless they were when put on the spot – 1 Kings 18: 27,28

How different to the Lord their God! Israel did not carry Him around; rather, He carried them continually without problem. Such was His care of them that He safely secured their well being in both provision and protection. He was always on the scene to attend to them at all times. He had the ability to speak and provide all the answers that were required for their happiness and future. There was no need to envy the heathen because He stood supreme and sovereign over all.

There is ever the demand to make sure that there is a clear and true understanding in relation to God. He exceeds all the ideas and creations of the greatest skilled craftsman. The God of creation and of the Bible is the Living God. He possesses the ability to communicate with those who desire to hear and hearken to Him. Make certain that your antenna is up and that you are tuned in to all He has to say about your life. He also carefully carries those who simply trust Him throughout the whole of life with all of its circumstances.

DIVINELY ATTIRED

Zechariah 3

The portrait given of Joshua is not a very good one. Here he is seen in a filthy condition in need both of cleansing and clothing. He stands representative of the people and Jerusalem. Satan is present bringing his accusations and charges against him denouncing in a way to make his case look impossible. It looked as if he would have to be rejected and condemned. Things did not look to be in a very good state or light. How could there be any escape from this situation. But divine love, grace and power prevail. The Lord takes His stand to deal with Satan and His servant. There is the rebuking of Satan and the immediate attention given to the requirements of Joshua. There comes the removal of the awful apparel, the cleansing and the fresh clothing. This meant something major as a consequence.

1/. NO LONGER A STATE OF DIVINE JUDGEMENT EXISTED – vv1,2

Prior to the action taken by the Lord, things did not look hopeful for Joshua and God’s people as they stood condemned. The past had left them in an awful state but it was now time for a new beginning – see Isaiah 40: 1. They were to be delivered liked a brand plucked from the burning. They were going to be not only saved but cleaned up and made ready for much greater things. This action by the Lord makes it clear that Satan had no hold and that everything had changed for the well being of God’s elect household. When people were justified by a Roman court they were clothed with white garments to indicate the fact of acquittal and approval.

2/. A DIVINE CONDITION OF AUTHORITY EXPERIENCED – vv6, 7

Divine authority would be granted to the nation to act in a situation of priesthood and this meant they could mediate with God in a dynamic sense. One has it: “walking in the corridors of power.” Being able to relate with God in an authoritative sense and setting, knowing the blessing of divine rights and privileges in many ways. As there was an obedience to His authority and rule, authority would be their lot.

3/. THE PRIVILEGE OF DIVINE FELLOWSHIP ENJOYED – v7

Freedom to be able to enter into a very close and meaningful relationship with God.  No longer under any threat but able to know the utter blessing of communion and communication with the Lord and having His input always.

4/. THE PROSPECTS FOR THE FUTURE EXPECTED – vv8-10

So much is assured in prospect. What has occurred in the clothing but indication of much more of a good order to happen. There is the assurance of a coming Messiah, the Branch. The bestowal of a beautiful stone with a divine inscription on it that shows further divine appreciation and acceptance and that can be worn
