One cannot sin and not have to pay a price for it in pain of conscience and in other areas. Good person as David was, he sinned and sought to cover it up. But he did not get away with it. He was deeply tormented over what he had done in committing adultery, followed by murder, and so he was utterly pained within over his misdeed. God did not let him get away with it and for a long period of time David discovered the awful pain for doing wrong. Psalm 32 is a disclosure of that experience.

It may appear that people seem to calmly handle the fact of their evil doings and put up a very bold front. This is one of the things that sin does. It creates a seeming doesn’t matter attitude and that one can do wrong and  not be greatly bothered about it. Jezebel was like that and sought to sow the same kind of attitude in her husband, Ahab – 1 Kings 21. Sin can harden the conscience in order to ease the pain and conviction but nevertheless conscience persists in a quiet and effective fashion.

There is a only one cure from this pain and anguish. It is in open confession to God in repentance and the will to forsake the evil. As long as it is loved and concealed it will bring is condemnation and ultimate judgment. Such is inevitable. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy2 – Proverbs 28:13. Make sure that there is no lurking evil in you which will cause deep sorrow and pain. Be sure you dispose of it in the way God has revealed.

You have been called to live in and through Christ so that His resurrection life will become gloriously manifested in you.  There is to be the new, heavenly image revealed which bears utmost conformity to Christ. Let Easter mean the appearance of a new person with new aspirations, attitudes  and achievements that bespeak real Christianity.

You will personally know the death of Christ has been successful when there has been a crucifixion of self, sin and Satan in your heart and life. You will then say with Paul;: “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me” – Galatians 2:20

The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand. Vince Lombardi

PRECIOUS TO GOD – Isaiah 43: 1-13

If there was one thing that should have been evident to Israel was the truth and fact that she was valued by God. In verse four He states: “you are precious to Me. you are honoured and I love you.” They only had to look at their history to see this proven again and again.  Abraham, the founding forefather was taken when he was a mere nobody to becoming the originator of the chosen race. The Lord had redeemed them out of seemingly non-existence as a serf people from Egypt and purchased them for Himself so that He might extend His goodness towards them. They had been singled out to be His choice inheritance.

Throughout the centuries, though they had been in heaps of trouble and difficulty, He had been there to bring them out. They had passed through deep waters and gone through intense fires that would have annihilated, but He had secured their salvation – vv1, 2. On many occasion they had been reduced to great straits because of their evil ways and their oppressors had sorely persecuted, but He had rescued. His lovingkindness had not failed although tested in the most demanding circumstances. Beyond doubt, they were precious to and loved by God.

No less obtains for the Christian believer. Every child of God has been purchased by the blood of Christ and has been sealed with the Holy Spirit thus proving their worth before God. It cost God everything to bring about the work of grace in your heart in terms of forgiveness and also placing you in the favourable status of divine sonship. He jealously safeguards the security of His own and in times of real pressure is with them so guaranteeing their preservation. You are intensely loved by the Lord and His purpose is to honour you as you honour Him.
