Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. In the next few days we will be considering ‘fulfilment’. During your life and stay of earth and within the church of Christ you must be able to perform so that you achieve your God-given destiny. Christ lived a fulfilled life and at the end he could say to His heavenly Father, “I have finished the work you gave me to do”. So you, too, must be able to complete your course in life and work.

FULFILMENT – IN ALL THINGS – Philippians 4:13

It is a case of possessing the right inward motivation. This is what Paul had and could assert. He knew that Christ had come to live inside of him and this was to make a vital difference to life and living. He sensed the inward emboldening of his spirit and being and could affirm he was now strengthened with the strength of Christ. Instead of being driven by pessimism and doubt as to daily challenges, he could say: “I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me” – Phil 4:13

He knew that being one with Christ and Christ union with him and this meant that he was fully equipped to deal with everything that came his way. He was not at the mercy of anyone or anything but could more that cope to great satisfaction and testimony. On the Adriatic waters, with a howling storm that threatened the ship and all on board, he was quite at peace and fearless. He took charge and asserted that nobody had anything to worry about. All would be saved. And it happened!

So whatever and whoever is before you today and in your future you can be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Instead of wilting under all the pressures that are arrayed against, they will bow to your presence, word and attitude in and through Christ. You are made in Christ to be ‘more than a conqueror’. So its time to find fulfilment in all things that will come your way.

Sinners Jesus will Receive

The Christian Gospel is still the most relevant and vital; message for this day and generation. All mankind is sinful needing to be forgiven and free from its power. Only Christ can bring this about. Allowing His and His work which he wrought on the Cross into one’s life brings the essential cleansing and makes one acceptable to God. He is free to extend His favour to the forgiven soul. Not to receive Christ means impending judgment after death. The wise seize the opportunity of present salvation.

1/. Sinners Jesus will receive; Sound this word of grace to all
Who the heavenly pathway leave, All who linger, all who fall.

Sing it o’er and o’er again; Christ receiveth sinful men;
Make the message clear and plain  Christ receiveth sinful men.

2/. Come, and He will give you rest; Trust Him for His word is plain;
He will take the sinfulest  Christ receiveth sinful men.

3/. Now my heart condemns me not, Pure before the law I stand;
He who cleansed me from all spot, Satisfied its last demand.

4/. Christ receiveth sinful men, Even me with all my sin;
Purged from every spot and stain, Glory I shall enter in.

A description is given of the protection that the Lord is able to place over His people in their time of intense trouble. He addresses them in v5 – “The LORD Almighty will hover over Jerusalem as a bird hovers its nest.” He will be ever present to look after the interests of the people and the city. There is the assurance that He is watching over with jealous and diligent watchfulness and He will make sure that all are kept safe and wholly protected. The image and illustration used is that of the mother bird maintaining a wholesome guard upon the well being of the young that are in the nest. She will see to it that it will be defended at all cost, even to the expending of her own life, if need be. Her wings provide a real shelter over the nest.

There is the testimony as to the strength of the defender. He is ‘the LORD Almighty’ and the guarantee is “He will defend and save the city, He will pass over it, and rescue it.” No limit is to be set on His capability. He is the omnipotent One with all the essential authority and power to destroy the enemy and safeguard what He regards as His own. This affirmation was intended to eliminate the fear and dread that the people were feeling at this time. The Lord would adequately provide a full deliverance.

The Christian believer has nothing to fear as they abide in Christ. Security at all times is provided in Him. Trouble seeks to create panic and destroy peace, so an anxious response assists the strategy of evil. God is able to completely stabilize our thoughts and emotions by assuring that He will both protect and deliver. Know that as you safely abide under His wings, you find refuge when assailed and confronted by malicious foes and circumstances. He is your immediate covering.
