Rev. E. Anderson

Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. One of the things that man has been created with is sensitivity and it plays a very important role within the enjoyment and blessedness of life. He was made to exist and experience two kinds of senses: spiritual and natural. The first to be able to be conscious and taste spiritual realities, the second, to know the immense delights in the natural such as hearing, seeing . .  and so on. He was meant to live and experience two worlds, the spiritual to major and impact the natural.

The Lord had been a great teacher to His disciples. He had taught them many things but they were still in need of further knowledge after His promotion to heaven. He assured them that a great teacher was on the way that would ‘lead them into all truth’ – vv12-15. It would be needful for them to become susceptible and responsive to Him so that they may know greater truth re-Himself and be guided with certainty in their Christian life and experience. It would require both faith and humility on their part and the will to inquire of the Holy Spirit for His input and direction.

Having brought them so far, additional knowledge and instruction was required that was related to His person, position and work. The Holy Spirit would be self-effacing placing the emphasis on Christ as to who He was, what he had done, his present and future role within Christendom. He could be relied upon because He was and is the Spirit of Truth and only communicates truth.

The Holy Spirit has remained with the Christian Church to be its inspiration, mentor and encouragement. It is vital for you to have constant communion with Him and be schooled by Him in the essential truths of Christendom. As you humbly seek and submit to Him so He will unerringly lead and guide with regard to faith and ministry. You are in God’s school of further education in order to know and grow.

Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored. Earl Nightingale

Never lose Sight of Jesus

The safety and true blessedness for every Christian is a fixed gaze and devotion to Christ. What is certain is that He will ever be present and will never fail to live up to your expectations. Building an accord with Him is the secret of living and He calls you to turn your attention to Him and firmly place your faith in Him always. He will lead you all the way and bring you to His everlasting habitations.

1/. Oh, Pilgrim bound for the heav’nly land, Never lose sight of Jesus;
He’ll lead you gently with loving hand, Never lose sight of Jesus.

Never lose sight of Jesus,  Never lose sight of Jesus;
Day and night He will lead you right, Never lose sight of Jesus.

2/. Whene’er you’re tempted to go astray, Never lose sight of Jesus;
Press onward, upward, the narrow way, Never lose sight of Jesus. [Chorus]

3/.  Tho’ dark the pathway may seem ahead, Never lose sight of Jesus;
“I will be with you,” His word hath said, Never lose sight of Jesus; [Chorus]

4/.  When death is knocking outside the door, Never lose sight of Jesus;
Till safely landed on Canaan’s shore, Never lose sight of Jesus. [Chorus]

Little did the Assyrians know that in their conquests that it was the Lord who was employing them to fulfil His purpose.  They had the impression that it was by their own skill and power that their enemies were smitten before them and their lands. He is going to be most gracious to them and bring about a wonderful restoration that would make conquered and possessed. Vainly they assumed it was by their own prowess and strength that they had advanced to a position of seeming superior position over all.  In noting the strides they made against the nations it was easy for them to become proud and arrogant in this conception and conviction. From natural reasoning it did look as if by their own ability they had now arrived as top dog.

This passage makes it clear that the progress and exaltation was due to the Lord and that He had used them to mete out punishment to the nations and His people. The Lord sets the record straight by revealing that the Assyrians were an instrument in His hand. Questions are raised that make this obvious – v15 “Can the axe boast greater power than the person who uses it? . . .   . Can a whip strike unless a hand is moving it? Can a cane walk by itself?”  God can use who He wills, as He wills and when He wills. The hearts and ways of kings and kingdoms are in His sovereign hand.

It is assuring to note that all is under divine control, even the correction and chastisement of His people by opposing forces. He can make all serve His sovereign will and purpose. The necessary thing for you to know and do is to make certain that you are living and working in submission to His blessed designs so it will turn out to untold good and profit. There is never any need to fear the workers and works of evil when there is a humble recognition of Him within your life every day.
