Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. God made the believer to be a victor not a victim. It was His eternal an original intention that those who knew, loved and served Him should be kings and sit enthroned ruling life an eternity. Christ came not only to birth you by His Spirit into the family and kingdom of heaven, He came to reveal to you the way in which life could be empowered and live a life of continual victory through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

  • It is an experience that you should seek. The Christian Church at the outset sought this promise – Acts 1:4,5, 12-14; 2
  • There must be a personal commitment to receiving this choice blessing which is to serve to advantage which introduces conquest – “Have you received this heavenly dynamo and dynamic – Acts 19:2
  • This blessing will open you out to receive the empowering that comes through the distribution of gifts that make a difference – 1 Cor 12:4-11. May there be no lack of these bestowments!
  • The Spirit-filled person is a constant threat to Satan and the kingdom of Satan. Such cannot withstand such an inspired Christian.
  • Do not lack this special gift as a child and servant of God. In isnf through it is your victorious state and standing.

Beware of no man more than of yourself; we carry our worst enemies within us.

God’s Abiding Peace is in my Soul Today

This one precious factor we require if we are to live a blessed and successful life – the peace of God. Christ came not only bring us into peace with God, taking away the antagonism created by sin, but to install and heighten the peace of God that governs daily thinking and living. It is something that money and wealth cannot buy. Enjoy it in abundance today.

Author: Elisha Hoffman (1839-1929) after graduating from Union Seminary in Pennsylvania was ordained in 1868. As a minister he was appointed to the circuit in Napoleon, Ohio in 1872. He worked with the Evangelical Association’s publishing arm in Cleveland for eleven years. He served in many chapels and churches in Cleveland and in Grafton in the 1880s, among them Bethel Home for Sailors and Seamen, Chestnut Ridge Union Chapel, Grace Congregational Church and Rockport Congregational Church. In his lifetime he wrote more than 2,000 gospel songs including “Leaning on the everlasting arms” (1894).

1/. God’s abiding peace is in my soul today, Yes, I feel it now, yes, I feel it now;
He has taken all my doubts and fears away, Though I cannot tell you how.

It is mine, mine, blessed be His Name! He has given peace, perfect peace to me;
It is mine, mine, blessed be His Name! Mine for all eternity!

2/. He has wrought in me a sweet and perfect rest, In my raptured heart I can feel it now;
He each passing moment keeps me saved and blest, Floods with light my heart and brow – refrain

3/. He has given me a never failing joy, Oh, I have it now! oh, I have it now!
To His praise I will my ransomed pow’rs employ, And renew my grateful vow – refrain

Oh, the love of God is comforting my soul, For His love is mine, yes, His love is mine!
Waves of joy and gladness o’er my spirit roll, Thrilling me with life divine – refrain

At least on six occasions, the New Living Translation records – “Destruction is certain for you” – vv 8, 11, 18, 20, 21, 22. These were very ominous and threatening words coming from the Lord to His ancient people. They were going to have to face an awful time of trouble and disgrace because of their wicked conduct. It was self-inflicted and so they could only blame themselves for the inevitable retribution that was to occur. God’s sentence was sure to be carried out.

The things that God listed reveal how they deserved this treatment and punishment. One factor mentioned highlights the real issue in vv12 –“You furnish lovely music and wine at your grand parties, the harps, lyres, tambourines and flutes are superb! But you never think about the Lord or notice what He is doing.” They were so busy doing their own thing that the Lord never got a look in. Much activity was in evidence but no genuine seeking of the Lord to know Him and His ways.  All seemed to be caught up in their own ideas, desires and plans and He was not considered.

Things have not changed in this world: people are given over to pleasure, making their own laws and doing their own thing. The danger is that this creeps into the Church and infects Christians. At the end of the process, divine destruction will come on those who embrace such a life style. It is imperative that your pursuit is always to seek and please God. Herein is your blessedness and security. Do not be lured into doing things that will bring inevitable judgment.
