Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. We now turn our thoughts to another important factor if there is to be positive dealing with God. The word is ‘assurance’ a spiritual reality to be entered into if one is to know God to live a true life and extract the best from God. In coming to know Go through His Word, Spirit and Jesus Christ, the min an heart is to be possessed with sure knowledge of truth an things that matter. Doubt and uncertainty is removed as the blessing of heavenly convictions move in an take over life.

Christ taught that if prayer is to be answered on a regular basis then there has to be the presence an influence of certitude. He acclaimed: “Whatsoever things you desire when you pray, believe (that is being assured and certain) that you receive them and shall have them” – Mark 11:24. The definite knowledge is known beforehand that the petitions will have due attention. There is the confidence sensed ahead both as to the ability of God to clearly hear and deal completely with what is requested.

People in the Bible have seemingly put God into a great spot to prove His capability and were not let down. He never failed them. Elijah was put into a contest on this front. In the presence of immense opposition he called on Jehovah to fire up the sacrifice he had made – 1 Kings 18. The response was staggering! Fire fell from heaven consuming sacrifice, water and stones. The lot was burned up. He then has the assurance to ask for rain in a time of extreme drought and was duly compensated.

So the Lord wills to see you at regular prayer and to perform some very choice, incredible things. It is not simply to be a one off happening. As Jesus stood outside the grave of Lazarus he said: “Father, I thank you that you have hear Me, And I know that You hear me always” – John 11: 41, 42. So you are to know and enjoy the immense satisfaction of answered prayer. You need to feed and nurture that assurance continually so that you have much to witness in God at work in your daily life.

People are funny! Everyone wants to live a long time, but no one wants to get old!

Just think-twenty five years from now, these will be -’the good old days

Peace, perfect peace, in this Dark World of in Sin

This is what I required by all men in a world of personal sin an conflict. Thankfully Christ is the absolute an perfect answer for this. He is the Prince of He is Peace, once He is admitted into life as Saviour an Lord, He brings both peace with Go and the peace of God in all of its reality, fullness an blessedness.

Edward Henry Bickersteth, D.D., son of Edward Bickersteth, Sr. born at Islington, Jan. 1825, and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge (B.A. with honours, 1847; M.A., 1850). On taking Holy Orders in 1848, he became curate of Banningham, Norfolk, and then of Christ Church, Tunbridge Wells. His preferment to the Rectory of Hinton-Martell, in 1852, was followed by that of the Vicarage of Christ Church, Hampstead, 1855. In 1885 he became Dean of Gloucester, and the same year Bishop of Exeter.

1/. Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within

2/. Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus—this is rest.

3/. Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus’ bosom naught but calm is found.

4/. Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away?
In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they.

5/. Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.

6/. Peace, perfect peace, death shadowing us an ours?

Jesus has vanquished death an all its powers.

7/. It is enough; earth’s struggle soon shall cease,

And Jesus call us to heaven’ perfect peace.

The guarantee is given at the outset that those who live under the covering of God will be safe and secure under His omnipotent protection. He is set forth in the whole psalm as the Divine Protector. God is described as being ‘the Almighty’ which indicates that all power belongs to Him, therefore He is able to provide the needful defence for those who resort to Him and make Him their refuge. Having all wisdom and power He is able to attend to the emergencies that engulf mortal man. It is stated quite emphatically – “For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from every fatal plague” – v3. This is a big assurance that calls for faith and fulfilment.

At the disposal of the Lord are an innumerable host of angels that possess His authority and ability to act on his behalf – v11. They are involved in providing protection for those who live under God’s wing. What tremendous power is delegated to them as they conduct this business of providing essential shelter and security to God’s people! One only has to read the accounts of Hezekiah and Elisha to see the angels at work in the interests of His servants – Isaiah – 37; 2 Kings 6. The Lord knows how to put His plans of rescue into operation and to achieve the major deliverances that are required in times of trouble.

Maybe you feel greatly exposed to real crises that threaten your whole life. There is One that you can retreat to and find the covering of His presence and word. Sometimes He allows these evils to arise in order that His worth may be discovered. Your immediate weakness prevails in order that you may know His almightiness. Instead of being overcome by fear and beset by trauma, find out now that He is with you to express His preservation. Be fortified in the knowledge that He will more than secure your person and well being.
