Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. We now turn our thoughts to another important factor if there is to be positive dealing with God. The word is ‘assurance’ a spiritual reality to be entered into if one is to know God to live a true life and extract the best from God. In coming to know Go through His Word, Spirit and Jesus Christ, the min an heart is to be possessed with sure knowledge of truth an things that matter. Doubt and uncertainty is removed as the blessing of heavenly convictions move in an take over life.

The book of Ruth is quite an enthralling story of a mere nobody who became a real somebody and finds her life’s account in the Scriptures for all to muse on and be inspired with. At a time when all her dreams appear to be shattered she manifests great wisdom and an indomitable spirit that yield tremendous gains and blessings. Instead of falling foul of the negative circumstances that hit the family in Moab, she rises to record a miraculous upturn in her life and for her mother in law, too. Death had wiped the three men folk, all looked bleak. Orpah thought it better to get back to her kindred in the hopes that things would hopefully change.

When Ruth decides to link up with her mother-in-law, Orpah tries to change her mind but Ruth was not for turning. She ha already thought the thing though and assuredly believed she was doing the best thing. It didn’t look so from outward appearance but she knew in her self this was the right kind of action, to care for someone who really needed some help. She was ready to step out in simple trust and rest in the providences of God. She must have had an inner gut feeling that there would be some amazing developments. She placed herself in God’s good hands!

She was not to lose out on her commitment. Even when coming to Bethlehem there was a tough assignment awaiting. She was not afraid to soil her hands and labour industriously. She felt assured as she went to work in the fields of Boaz all would end well. What a winner she turned out to be because the Lord worked things out behind the scenes! What a husband and future she found! What a legacy she left! Be sure that in the everyday outworking of your affairs you seek to do the right and best thing. Yes, that which will have heaven’s attention and benediction. Even bitter incidents of life can move on to great things!

The Christian faith was made to flourish in hostile soil.
You can measure a man by the opposition it takes to discourage him..
When life knocks your knees you are in a good position to pray.
Some people suffer in silence- much louder than others.

O Christ in Thee my Soul hath Found

It surely was a great moment and ay when we made discovery and saw in Christ the means of complete an boundless satisfaction. Instead of having to chase after this and that He became the One in whom true an real pleasure is to be known to the full. As the Scripture assert: He gives promise of the life that now is an the one to come. Christ offers quality an quantity delights that have no limits an open to all. As the psalmist states: “O taste an see that the Lord is good” – Psalm 34:8. One cannot afford to miss out on His glorious offer!

1/. O Christ in Thee my soul hath found, And found in Thee alone,
The peace, the joy sought so long, The bliss till now unknown.

Now none but Christ can satisfy, None other Name for me,
There’s love an life an lasting joy, Lord Jesus found in Thee.

2/. I sighed for rest an happiness, I yearned for them, not Thee:
But while I passed my Saviour by, His love laid hold on me – refrain

3/. I tried the broken cisterns, Lord, But, ah! The waters failed,

4/. The pleasures lost I sadly lost I sadly mourned, But never wept for Thee;
Till grace my sightless eyes received Thy loveliness to see.

At a crucial time in Israel’s history the Lord discovered a person who could serve Him, His people and purposes well. There had been an awful failure because of the disobedience of Saul but it was to be answered by the election of an individual that would prove his spiritual worth. In v20 the statement is made: “I have found David my servant.” The Lord had been noting the one that would adequately replace the failed monarch and at the right time He would raise him up to powerfully serve his generation.

The assurances are given in vv20-37 as to what the Lord would do and be to this unique individual. The primary factor was – “I have anointed him with my holy oil.” David valued that anointing and knew that he was set apart to fulfil the major role as king of Israel. God prepared him for the task of establishing God’s people as a victorious nation with increase of status and territory, through their strength of relationship with God. What a success story!

The Lord is ever observing what is happening on earth, especially within Christendom, and He seeks out people who will be able to achieve major roles in love and service. He would seek you out so that He might mantle you with His divine anointing and set you apart for fulfilling mission. He knows who and where you are. He desires to lift you into meaningful sacred service that will advance His Name and Kingdom. Do not settle for any less than God’s best!
