Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. We now turn our thoughts to another important factor if there is to be positive dealing with God. The word is ‘consecrate’, a spiritual reality to be entered into if one is to know God to live a true life and extract the best from life. One of the vital and glorious considerations of life is the knowledge that you are demonstrating a genuine commitment to Christ which is real and fulfilling.

CONSECRATE – to an Honoured Calling and Status – 1 Samuel 16

Young David as a shepherd-boy never thought he would one day occupy the throne of Israel. He was quite content to look after a flock of sheep away from the public eye. It was whilst engaged in this humble role that he came to know the LORD and to worship Him and trust Him simply in incredible ways. He obtained the heavenly favour and became destined to be a future monarch of renown.

Whilst serving his flock he is suddenly called home to meet Samuel the prophet. A real surprise awaited! He must hurry home because of this important visitor had requested his presence. He is anointed with oil an set apart, consecrated to be the next king. David must have quietly pondered on this in privacy and quietly committed himself to Jehovah to bring it to pass. He would not envy Saul but remain in the background awaiting the LORD’S timing and workings.

You have been called to kingship with Christ. You are in His kingdom to know and occupy a role of heavenly authority and grace with and through Him, now. Instead of being a victim of sin and Satan, you occupy a spiritual throne of power with Christ and all evil opposition is under your feet. It is now time for you to command in and through Christ and make known your new status.

.Jesus Like a Shepherd Lead Us
1/.Saviour, like a Shepherd lead us; Much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pastures lead us, For our use Thy folds prepare.
Blessed Jesus, Thou hast bought us, Thine we are ( repeat)

2/. We are Thine, do Thou befriend us; our way;; Be the Guardian of way;
Keep Thy flock, from sin defend, Seek us when we go astray;
Blessed Jesus, Hear us when we praise and pray (repeat)

3/. Thou hast promised to receive us, Poor and sinful though we be;
Thou hast mercy to relieve us, Grace to cleanse, and make us free:
Blessed Jesus, Early let us turn to Thee.

4/.Early let us seek Thy favour; Early let us do Thy will;
Gracious Lord, our only Saviour, With Thyself our bosoms fill.
Blessed Jesus, Thou hast love us – love us still.

To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone and a funny bone – Reba McEntire

The contents of this psalm indicate that Israel was in the depth of trouble. A formidable number of nations were allied together to destroy and wipe out the memory of God’s elect household. They had met together and devised a plan in order to bring to an end the existence of this divinely chosen race. From a natural angle they possessed the numerical and military superiority to cause Israel to be no more. They were in a very strong position to be able to bring about their evil designs. No wonder the psalmist is in a state of spiritual trauma!

It appears to be worsened by the fact that it could be that the Lord was sitting unmoved and undisturbed by the whole thing – v1. He seeks to grab His attention and interference on the issue but at that point there is no response. He does recognize that Israel had known remarkable interventions before when all was against them – vv9-12. He would like to see God up-date and show He was still able to act no matter how strong the enemy might be. He could deal with them easily and victoriously – vv13-16. There is a sense of divine confidence entering into him knowing that God is able to match the foe. His ultimate motive is pure as vv17, 18 reveals. Above all, He wants the name of the Lord to be glorified.

It may well be that you are surrounded by the wicked one and by people that design your downfall and destruction. God may appear to be remote from you and your prayers. Sometimes things seem to take on this view. Be encouraged by the vigilance, diligence and the interest of God at this critical hour. Be like Daniel, who let God deal with his wicked conspirators and their plans! He came quietly through the ordeal with honour and was able to glorify God all the more.
