Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. We now turn our thoughts to another important factor if there is to be positive dealing with God. The word is ‘joy’, a spiritual reality to be entered into if one is to know God to live a true life and extract the best from life.

Christ desired that those who believed an followed Him should have abounding joy. In John 15:11. He states: “I have told you these things, that My joy an delight may be in you, and that your joy may be of full measure and complete and overflowing”. In one particular area He desired that they taste the pure and life-giving joy; answer to prayer. As they asked God He would do incredible things and so there joy would know no limits. They would never be at the mercy of their circumstances or people but see His hand of power manifest.

In Acts 12, Peter was locked up in prison and it seemed that the death sentence was on him. Herod had planned his removal and God kept things to the critical hour, the seeming last night prior to execution, but a miracle occurred and Peter was divinely released. The body of believers literally rejoiced over the way God move in to perform a major deliverance.

God has not lost His omnipotence, His arm of power to work mightily on your behalf. You may be in a situation now where things look bleak and black but this presents no problem to Him to bring about a glorious answer. Use the weapon of prayer and believe Him to step in and perform the wonder. This is to be your miracle and praise day! Your joy is to abound and your testimony be of His unfailing goodness and power.

1/.Who can cheer the heart like Jesus, By His presence all divine?
True and tender, pure and precious, O how blest to call Him mine!

All that thrills my soul is Jesus;   He is more than life to me;
And the fairest of ten thousand,   In my blessed Lord I see.

2/. Love of Christ so freely given.   Grace of God beyond degree,
Mercy higher than the heaven,   Deeper then the deepest sea – refrain

3/. What a wonderful redemption!   Never can a mortal know
How my sin, tho’ red like crimson,   Can be whiter than the snow – refrain

4/. Every need His hand supplying,   Every good in Him I see;
On His strength divine relying,   He is all in all to me – refrain

5/. By the crystal flowing river   With the ransomed I will sing,
And forever and forever   Praise and glorify the King. .

We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us – Joseph Campbell

The psalm commences with “Please listen, O Shepherd of Israel” indicating a sense of rich desire and urgency.  A further 3 times the plea is made: “Turn us again to yourself, O God Almighty” – vv3, 7, 19, again expressing a deep longing and necessity. Within the heart of the petitioner is a spiritual burden and pressure that the Lord would respond to and intervene in the life of the nation. He knows who he is talking to and is convinced that He is able to work to bring about this important change amongst the elect people. The main thing was that the nation would once more know an intimate relationship with God.

There was an awareness of what had been in the life and history of the state as God had been responsible for her existence, growth and blessing. She had fared well under His sovereign rule and care. Her experience had been like that of a very fruitful vine that had been planted by Him, luxuriant and highly productive. Such was not the case now. The opposite was true. But he believed the Lord could and would bring about a significant change and restore to former glory and blessing.

As you look at your spiritual life you may sense that you are not where you should be. There is no great rate of production in terms of growth, of grace and gift. The Lord does not appear too close and intimate. Remember, His plan is that there will be divine fruit, more fruit and much fruit in every way. Turn to Him with urgency and ask that He will once again significantly renew and touch you so that His blessing will become evident and eminent. This is the kind of prayer that He loves to respond to in a personal manner.
