Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. We now turn our thoughts to another important factor if there is to be positive dealing with God. It is essentially ‘love’. This is a crucial factor if there is to be fruitful and worthwhile relation with an for God. Nothing of any worth will be known or accomplished without a vibrant and close accord with Him in this all essential.

Love – The Motivation in Life and Service – 2 Cor 5: 13

The great missionary-evangelist, Paul, affirmed what was the inspired dynamic in his personal life and service very clearly. He said: “For the love of Christ constraineth us” – 2 Cor 5:13. He was held in, bound and galvanized with the same passion that was in Jesus Christ. For him, this was the crucial and critical element that made all the difference to him and his ministry for Christ. Because he was so beset by this love, it enabled him to perform in like manner as Christ revealed.

Christ and Paul have set the tone and standard for the whole of Christendom for all time. The bar has not been lowered whatsoever and there is still the demand for this quality of motivation. Church history provides with a host of names of people who caught this fire and flame and became relentless in their pursuit for Christ and His kingdom. They were determined, Martin Luther, Latimer and Ridley, John Wesley, General Booth, Hudson Taylor, etc., who possessed the same kind of love as Christ.

The challenge is now with the Christian Church today. It must not be shamed by the example of those who have followed in Christ’s tracks. The opportunity is now presented of revealing to all men what inspires and motivates both life and service. You, too, can and must make a valuable contribution to the witness of Christ at this late hour in human history.

Jesus was Slain for me, at Calvary

This is a simple three-verse hymn that spells out clearly the message of Christ His advent into the world was with this in mind, to be the substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. He suffered death and alienation from God to procure the right for every sinner to be forgiven, cleansed of all guilt and shame and too be re-united with God the Father. Well, the sin issue has been settled once for all by Christ and it is time that you  believed and accepted the message. The place Calvary is where all happened, the greatest love-spot in human history!

1/.  Jesus was slain for me, At Calvary, Crowned with thorns was He, At Calvary.

There He in anguish died, There from His opened side, Poured forth the crimson tide, At Calvary.

2/. Pardoned is all my sin, At Calvary. Cleansed is my hearth within, At Calvary.

Now robes of praise I wear, Gone are my grief and care, Christ bore my burdens there, At Calvary.

3/. Wondrous His love for me, At Calvary. Glorious His victory, At Calvary.

Vanquished are death and hell, Oh, let His praises swell, Ever my tongue shall tell, Of Calvary.

QUOTES TO NOTE – respect

One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say – Bryant H. McGill

It is true to state that there are tremendous heights to which a person can aspire and reach of godly character by God‘s grace. Conversely there are also terrible depths of degeneracy and depravity to which an individual can sink when God is left out of life. A wonderful standard had been attained through Hezekiah but probably he missed the opportunity of putting everything in order for the strengthening and blessing of the kingdom when the Lord spoke to him. He may well have been aware of the waywardness and wickedness of Manasseh and did nothing about it. So when he died he left the nation exposed to an awful monarch and reign.

Manasseh seemed to be bent on evil right from the onset and led the people on a downward track. He was powerfully governed by evil and introduced everything that was objectionable to God. He took delight in doing all that was evil and offensive. So he stirred up the wrath of God to the point where God predicted through His servants the judgment that was to occur. As a consequence of his reign, so many suffered through the tyranny and depravity.

The thing that comes out of a brief review of his life is the obvious truth and fact that sin always takes people away from God, and all that are good. It also takes the life down a degenerate course that undoes and destroys. Learn the lesson that all evil must be avoided and no sin must be tolerated because it produces a way of life that misses out on God’s grace and blessing. Make sure that inbuilt in you is a resistance to all that is of a wicked order and so safeguard your life and destiny.
