Thought for the Day follows an instructive theme for everyday of the Week. We now turn our thoughts to another important factor if there is to be positive dealing with God. It is ‘communion’. This is a crucial factor if there is to be fruitful and worthwhile relation with God. Nothing of any worth will be known or accomplished without a vibrant and close accord with Him

Communion – an absolute priority – Gen 3: 8

At the commencement for man, he was created to enjoy a vibrant relationship with God. The choice thing everyday, God was thrilled to come down and spend time in company and ministry with this unique being, man Genesis 3. He had formed a creature that He could communicate with and for the creature to be able to relate back. It was His desire and design that this be the base on which things would move ahead for God and Man. Of course, there had to be the formation of trust, and so the initial test to discover trust in man which Adam and Eve failed. God is worthy of trust but are you?

The awful break came because of sin and mankind became the great loser because of lost fellowship. He was left to his own weak nature and exposed to other kinds of evil that thwarted the reality of relationship with God. Man of himself could not build a bridge to God and establish the union and communion. The Bible is all about God seeking to bring about a change here. His choice of godly people and Israel as a nation was in order to get things back on track in terms of fellowship.

The Good News as the New Testament reveals, Jesus Christ came into the world to establish relationship once again. His life, death, resurrection and ascension have established a dynamic contact. He has atoned for our sins but now lives to come and share His Father with us. Now you, today, need to avail yourself of spending time with the Godhead and receive His constant input. Consider how much time you allocate to having time with God. Seek to improve the ratio and benefit much more through your personal accord with Him.

A Friend of Jesus, O what Bliss

During this forthcoming year may you Christ as your real Friend. He, as the Scripture says, there is a ‘Friend that sticketh closer than a brother’. Other friendships cease and come to an end, not to with Christ. He is to be our Friend through eternity an manifest His friendship in incredible ways. Sing or mouth this song day and may you know the immediate presence of this Friend and the input of His kindness today.

1.  A friend of Jesus! Oh, what bliss That one so weak as I
Should ever have a Friend like this To lead me to the sky!

Friendship with Jesus! Fellowship divine!
Oh, what blessed, sweet communion! Jesus is a Friend of mine.

2/.  A Friend when other friendships cease, A Friend when others fail,

A Friend who gives me joy and peace, A Friend when foes assail! [Refrain]

3/.  A Friend when sickness lays me low, A Friend when death draws near,
A Friend as through the vale I go, A Friend to help and cheer! [Refrain]

4/.  A Friend when life’s short race is o’er A Friend when earth is past,
A Friend to meet on Heaven’s shore, A Friend when home at last! [Refrain]

QUOTES TO NOTE – marriage

When a man opens a car door for his wife, it’s either a new car or a new wife – Prince Philip

A GOOD MAN – 2 Kings 11

The account reveals the exploits of a good man by the name of Jehoiada who was priest at that time. From what is recorded he was a very good and godly man. His goodness stemmed from his godliness. His godliness was the result of his personal commitment to God and righteousness. At a time when everything was evil and wrong he is totally dedicated to seeing the nation restored to its relationship with God. Evil was a paramount feature in the land and was due to the fact that the wicked queen Athaliah was in control.

In a wonderful way, a child, the king’s son, Jehoash, was saved from being murdered. His sister had been able to rescue him out of a treacherous situation. The priest then saw to his preservation and at the right time brought him forth to be enthroned. At that special ceremony he let this young monarch know his responsibility towards God and called on the people to show their loyalty too – vv12,17. All were made aware that they needed to see to it that the Lord was in His rightful place and only then would everything be in a state of peace and progress.

There is a great demand for good and godly people that can bring their influence upon the evil situations that exist. Those who have true love for God and righteousness can overthrow the dominance of wickedness in a positive manner. Be amongst those who make a valid and valuable contribution to society by your faith and conduct. As you make your stand in and for God you can depend on it that He will back you up all the way to turn situations completely around for Him.
