Meditating on the Holy Spirit

There is no doubt about it, Christ desired that His disciples would give time and thought to the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit – John 14-16. He spent time about His coming and the ministry that He would perform in and for them. Thankfully, the apostles took it to heart and after the ascension of Christ they gave themselves in prayer seeking heaven for the outpouring of this blessing. He descended and filled them as Act 2 records and he became the inspiring and guiding factor and force in the Christian Church, in their lives and ministries. The book of Acts is the Book of the Acts of the Holy Spirit.

You need to give real consideration as to the actual presence and work of the holy Spirit in your daily life. How much is he presence and influencing your life, faith and service. The command is not only to be saved but to move on and ‘befilled with the Holy Spirit’. Paul encouraged the believers to respond on this front and allow Him complete rule in their worship and work. The Corinthian Church was taught how there were glorious gifts of revelation, power and utterance through his indwelling and action.

O today, be up-to-date with your experience with the Holy Spirit. You are only going to live and work as Christ wills you do inasmuch as the Spirit of God assumes His place and role continually in you. He is up to meeting and working through you at the highest level. Why not sing and mean it: “Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh one me, Fill me anew, fill me anew . . . . .” He will make a difference to your life and today!

Oh, the Bitter Shame and  Sorrow

This is a very challenging and directional song to be sung and indicates real spiritual aspiration and movement. It moves from all of self to none of self and all of Thee – Christ This is what Christianity is all about. Through His indwelling and in-working the individual becomes transformed from a person of utter selfishness to complete selflessness. Such becomes a glorious replica of His wonderful Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.

Author: Theodore Monod, son of F. Monod, Pastor in the French Reformed Church, was born in Paris, Nov. 6, 1836, and educated for the ministry at Western Theological Seminary, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. He entered the ministry in 1860, and has been many years a Pastor in Paris. The quality words of this hymn indicate the decent an death of sinful self and the ascent and ascendancy of Jesus Christ in and over life.

1/. O the bitter shame and sorrow, That a time could ever be,When I let the Saviour’s pity.

Plead in vain, and proudly answered, All of self, and none of Thee!

2/. Yet He found me; I beheld Him Bleeding on th’accursèd tree, Heard Him pray, Forgive them, Father!
And my wistful heart said faintly, Some of self, and some of Thee!

3/. Day by day His tender mercy, Healing, helping, full and free,
Sweet and strong, and ah! so patient,
Brought me lower, while I whispered, Less of self, and more of Thee!

4/. Higher than the highest heavens, Deeper than the deepest sea,
Lord, Thy love at last hath conquered: Grant me now my supplication,
None of self, and all of Thee!

QUOTES TO NOTE – motivational

Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later – Og Mandino

Jehu was given a very difficult assignment and that was to get rid of the dynasty of Ahab and it was a large household of sons and relatives – 2 Kings 9: 7. In the light of the evil that had been perpetrated against God’s messengers and people the divine decree was that all the family should be destroyed. He was to make sure that this evil line should perish because of the spiritual legacy that had been created. The whole thing was most offensive to the Lord. It was needful they and the system of idolatry that had been pursued through them be eliminated.

It required a great deal of courage and determination on Jehu’s part but he became relentless in his zeal and pursuit to carry through the prophetic word. He did not stop short of God’s command. The result of his deeds in this direction brought the commendation of the Lord. The Lord said, “You have done well in following my instructions” – v30. He received a promise that his children would succeed him on the throne. Unfortunately he did not make progress in his relationship with the Lord as v31 reveals. It is sad to read that he stopped short in this crucial area because he could have led the nation forward into better things and received greater commendation from the Lord.

There is a lesson to learn here. It is important to go all the way with God and discover what He wants to see established. After removing the negative and destructive factors it is essential to go further and make certain there is the introduction of pure and true worship of and service to the Lord. When God has brought a person into a place of leadership and fulfilment, to a degree, it is vital that they move on to complete His vision and plan. Know what He has called you to do and do it all.
