Rev. E. Anderson

One the great titles ascribed to Christ is that of the Blessed One. He was sent by the Godhead from heaven to be the agent of blessing to all the sons of men, and that includes you. His sacred calling, gifting and mission was to come and enrich everyone that would become switched on to Him, to His love, grace, wisdom and power; to institute an order of blessing that will impact the whole of this life in preparation for the one to come. Through His sacrificial death on the Cross, He makes it possible for God to cleanse and release you from sin and to bring you into God’s Family. From this new status you are in a position where untold blessings can stream in and through your life so you can become a blessing in everyway, everyday. This Christmas, make sure you are switched on to Him by Him and enjoy being blessed and made a blessing.

Make me a Channel of Blessing

Over this Christmas period may the words of this song echo in your heart as a prayer and may you see its fulfilment in many ways in countless lives. So many folk in the Christian Church and world need your loving hand and heart and the Lord would choose to you in choice ways to touch and bless countless lives.

Harper Garcia Smyth was a gifted musician who played with the Metropolitan Opera Company. He also served as choir director in a number of churches, as well as a song leader for the Salvation Army, and for evangelist Wilbur Chapman. Interestingly, he also led songs at the national convention of the Republican Party in 1924. In 1945 he was leading singing with a group of army inductees when he suffered a debilitating stroke, dying four months later.

Though he wrote about 25 songs, Smyth is known in Christian hymnody largely for the words and music of one gospel song he wrote in 1903, Is Your Life a Channel of Blessing?

Years ago, I used to visit a senior citizen whose final words to me many times were, “May the Lord bless you and make you a blessing. That identifies an important principle. It is only as the Lord blesses us that we have something we can pass on to others. God’s words to Abraham were, “I will bless you…and you shall be a blessing” (Gen. 12:2). And in the words of the Lord Jesus, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matt. 10:8). That is how it should be. We are to become channels of His blessing to others.

1/. Is your life a channel of blessing? Is the love of God flowing through you?
Are you telling the lost of the Saviour? Are you ready His service to do?

Make me a channel of blessing today, Make me a channel of blessing, I pray;
My life possessing, my service blessing, Make me a channel of blessing today.

2/. Are you burdened for those that are lost?

Have you urged upon those who are straying? The saviour who died on the Cross?

3/. Is your life a channel of blessing? Are you burdened for those that are lost?
Have you urged upon those who are straying, The Saviour who died on the cross?

4/. We cannot be channels of blessing If our lives are not free from all sin;
We will barriers be and a hindrance To those we are trying to win.

“We sinned for no reason but an incomprehensible lack of love, and He saved us for no reason but an incomprehensible excess of love” ― Peter Kreeft

The successor to the old prophet Elijah was driven with a wholesome spiritual desire. It was that he might be the possessor of the similar ministry of the one who had mentored him. He had been his protégé a long time and during it he knew that the Lord wanted him to function in this role. He wasn’t craving for a position but rather to experience the power of anointing in twice the degree. He knew he could only accomplish the Lord’s will for the people with such a measure of this blessing.

It was a big thing that he asked even as Elijah pointed out – “You have asked a hard thing” – v10. But Elisha believed it was there to be known and used in an effective manner. When his master is taken, whilst moved by his departure, he is more concerned about his own destiny. As he sees the cloak of Elijah left behind and knew what it represented, he was conscious of the fact he must express its significance. He had to return to take up where Elijah, left off and what better place than striking Jordan’s waters. Immediately he knew that the double portion of prophetic power and ministry was his. He had no doubts in his being.

What spiritual longing dominates your inner being? Are you ready to be stretched by God so that He can use you and to know His blessed authority in your life and work? The call of the hour is for Spirit-filled people with Spirit-anointed ministries. The Lord would awaken you to the knowledge and faith that there is this blessing in store providing that you make Him and His purpose your number one pursuit. This could be your finest hour as you enter into the legacy that Christ your Mentor has left you by way of example and promise. Today, know your spiritual inheritance.
