In meditating on the Christ of Christmas, may you realize who He is and what He has come to do personally in your life. Christmas becomes an every day experience because He is inside and alongside of you making a whole difference in your thinking, feeling, believing and living. He transforms life, belief and action making His presence known at every level. He is not a passing Christmas-present to be forgotten but is in you as dynamic influence and power to inspire and so cause choice things to come to pass which are utterly impossible by yourself. Instead of being beset by a negative and pessimistic mind and attitude, you are now possessed with a heavenly positive and optimism that makes life fulfilling and satisfying in every way. There is every reason why today and every day should be a Christ-Day in your experience!

O Little Town of Bethlehem

This is a very appropriate carol composed because of the prophetic declaration of where Christ was to be born. Christ lifted an insignificant place seemingly into prominence at His advent. It is interesting to note that Christ’s great forefather, king David, was born there. When Christ comes into our lives and is born in us He does the same. He takes hold of the evident ordinary and makes extraordinary. This Christmas let us realize we are people of worth because of His advent into out lives and not simply into history.

Rector Phillips Brooks (1835-19030 of Philadelpia, wrote the words to oittle town of Behlehem in Palesine especially at night time hence the lyrics of the carol. His church organist Lewis Redner wrote the melody for the Sunday School Children’s Choir.

1/. O little town of Bethlehem How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight

2/. For Christ is born of Mary And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wondering love
O morning stars together Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King And Peace to men on earth

3/. How silently, how silently The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may His coming, But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive him still, The dear Christ enters in.

4/. O holy Child of Bethlehem Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in Be born to us today
We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us Our Lord Emmanuel.

“The reality of loving God is loving him like he’s a Superhero who actually saved you from stuff rather than a Santa Claus who merely gave you some stuff”  ― Criss Jami Killosophy

It seems that lessons are never learned. History teaches this fact. Ahaziah, the king that followed Ahab, appears to have had a tragic accident falling from an upstairs porch in the palace in Samaria. He is seriously injured. There is due concern with regard to his recovery and he makes inquiry in the wrong direction. Instead of seeking God he turns to a god of another nation to find out whether he will make it. One would have thought that having seen all that his father experienced he would have avoided this procedure.

The Lord was not going to allow him to get away with it but sent a direct message to him via Elijah. The news was he would not recover. It was a God-given opportunity for him to repent and turn to the Lord and appeal to His grace and goodness. No doubt the Lord would have positively responded had there been a genuine humility expressed. Instead, he seeks vengeance against the true prophet and others are needlessly harmed. If only he had amended and acknowledged his sin things would have been different. It appears that he died a premature death.

When affliction strikes, there is a need to genuinely examine life in all of its ways. Often it is allowed to chasten in order for people to get on track with God. This is not always the case but it is wise to make honest inquiry of the Lord when sickness invades. He does desire the well being of His people; that is why there are so many promises in the Scriptures given to assure of life and health. Make sure that if anything happens to you that your first port of call is the Lord in prayer.
