DAILY MESSAGE

Life, if it is to beneficial and pleasurable, must possess the right temperament and disposition. The Christian virtues can only be created and cultivated by Christ through His indwelling and inspiration. He is inwardly present to inspire, form and temper the inward state so that what is expressed comes from Him. He comes to make you anew so that you are a revelation of Him. “If any man be in Christ He is a brand new creation (creature), old things are passed away and all things have become new”. You are to live and walk in newness of life today! There can be nothing better or greater than being indwelt by Him and allowing Him to have total control every day. It is both a privilege and pleasure to have Him playing the key role and to enjoy the end result.

SACRED SONGS

I’d Rather have Jesus

This has ever been one of my favourites since I came to Christ. Its link to Bev Shea will always be fixed as being Bev Shea’s song. I still regularly play it and still love to hear his voice and faith from the past. There is certainly no comparison to having Jesus or anything of equal or outstanding value. He is riches beyond compare after al these years!

In 1922,a woman named Rhea F. Miller wrote a poem. In 1932, a copy of that poem was placed on the top of an organ in a family home in New York. Seated at the organ was a 23-year-old musician named George Beverly Shea.

Miller’s poem caught young George’s attention. The words on the paper rang true to the cry of his heart. And so, he set them to music. Upon hearing her son singing this testimony of commitment, George’s mother came in from the kitchen, with tears in her eyes, and encouraged him to sing the new song in church the following Sunday    I’d Rather have Jesus than silver and gold, little did they know that the song was destined to become one of the most well-known of all contemporary Christian songs.
.
A few years later, George joined forces with another young man – Evangelist Billy Graham. Together they travelled the world. Billy would preach and George would sing. His two favourite songs were How Great Thou Art, and his signature song, I’d Rather Have Jesus.

I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold, I’d rather have His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands, I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand

Refrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain  And be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything This world affords today.

I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause, I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame, I’d rather be true to His holy name – efrain

He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom, He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs, I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead – refrain

DAILY MEDITATIONS

A MESSAGE IN BRIEF – 1 Kings 17: 1

This is but the opening sentence to a great life and ministry. Suddenly, seemingly from nowhere, this man of God, Elijah, appears before this wicked king with a message of divine judgment. When it was least expected, God showed up with a pronouncement of action that would reduce the nation to great straits. Elijah was sent by God to make the king and nation really know that what they were doing was a violation of His righteous laws and that there was a price to be paid for their rebellion. This man whose name means – “Jehovah is my God” revealed whom he worshipped and served.

The message was short and to the point: “there won’t be any dew or rain for several years until I say the word.” It was a real threat and meant that the whole nation would know the awful effect of there being no water. This was a basic necessity for them and the land. Everything would be reduced to a terrible state of desolation. God had said He would do this if the people failed to honour Him, so He was keeping up with what He had forecasted – Deuteronomy 11: 16, 17. It was a shock treatment applied by God in order to bring the ruler and people to true sense and conviction. It was a brief word but true and came into immediate effect.

Sometimes God has to take desperate measures out today with people, even those that profess a faith in Him, because their way of life discredits Him. It is important to know for certain when this is happening. God disciplines His children and does things to shake them out of apathy, compromise and association with evil. When things go wrong it is right that one inquires of Him the cause. It could be that there needs to be spiritual repentance and amendment so that you do not fall foul of evil.
