Let the quality of divine kindness find expression in and through you today. Note, it is one of the principal virtues that the LORD is seeking to create and cultivate in you to make you into the person that characterises Himself. This means being more than gracious and generous to those that are kindly disposed and honour you in beautiful ways. The divine directive is “do good to those that despitefully use you”. Make them astonished at this Christian attitude and action and see the inroads and impact made. Ever remember the basic Christian truth and fact: “whilst we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” – Romans 5: 8. The greatest act of kindness the LORD has revealed to you was acting lovingly on your behalf when you didn’t deserve it! Let it become your inward motivating force, too, for good and blessing.

I  Would  Love to Tell You what I think of Jesus

So often tragedy and despair have led to the writing of some of the most inspiring hymns.  This week’s choice is such an example.  Charles Weigle was an Itinerant evangelist and song writer.  One day after preaching at a gospel crusade, he came home to find a note from his wife of many years.  The note said that she did not care for the life she led being an evangelist’s wife and she was leaving him.  The next few years were a time of despair for Weigle. He later said that he became so despondent that there were even times when he contemplated suicide. He even wondered if anyone really cared for him.  After a time, his faith was again restored and he became active for the Lord again.  During this time he wanted to put to paper a song that would share the feelings he had experienced during his despondent days.  From a heart that was broken came the words and the tune for this week’s hymn.  This great testimony hymn has always been one of my favourites since it shares so well the feelings of my heart.  There are days when we all feel that nobody really cares about us.  Just recently, while facing a major trial, I confidentially shared my challenge with a person who I thought would care.  I admit that at first I was hurt when this person never said he’d pray for me and never even came back to see how I was doing.  I really don’t think he cares.  But then I remembered that this is just human nature and there is one who really knows and cares for me.  There are no other friends like Jesus.  I hope that you have found this true in your life.

1/. I would love to tell you what I think of Jesus Since I found in Him a Friends so kind and true

I would tell you how He changed my life completely;  He did something no other friend could do.

No one ever cared for me like Jesus;  There’s no other friend so kind as He.
No one else could take the sin And darkness from me;  O how much He cares for me.

All my life was full of sin when Jesus found me;  All my heart was full of misery and woe,
Jesus placed His strong arms about me And He led me in the way I ought to go – refrain

Ev’ry day He comes to me with new assurance;  More and more I understand His word of love.
But I’ll never know just why He came to save me,  Till someday I see His blessed face above – refrain.

If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it –  Michael Jordan

A POOR SUBSTITUTE – 1 Kings 14: 21-30

The rule of Rehoboam over the southern kingdom was very corrupt and sinful. There came the introduction of false worship and deterioration all round both morally and spiritually. There was the awful parade of evil and the sin of homosexuality became most pronounced – v24. They degenerated so much that the record has it: they “became as depraved as the heathen nations which the Lord drove out to make room for His people” –v24. No wonder the Lord was angry!

The judgment of the Lord was inevitable and so the king of Egypt invaded, conquering Jerusalem, taking the spoils of victory. In this booty he took the treasures of the Temple and palace, amongst them the gold shields. Rehoboam replaced them with brass ones. But they were a poor substitute. It was indicative of the poor spiritual state of himself and the people. Brass is a very poor alternative to gold. It may be an alternative but it’s true value can be measured by what was gone. The replacement really exposed what was missing.

How needful it is that nothing is allowed as a stand-in for what should be truly present! When idolatry and immorality displace it and take over instead of God and His standards there comes the erosion of life, faith and relationship with God. Other things are taken on board but can never make up for God and His blessing. Make certain that what you are doing at the present time accords with what the Lord requires. Herein is your blessedness and future. Remember, nothing and no one can be a replacement for Him.
