Having been birthed into the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ in a work of great grace and salvation, it is that you may develop and advance within it. Through Christ, the Holy Spirit and the inspired Word of God, in their united capacity and function they are able top bestow graces and gifts whereby you can grow and show the supreme quality of Christ, your Saviour, Lord and Friend. You are to continue to increase in love, wisdom, grace and power so that Christ is revealed in and through you. It is a matter of graduating from day to day until His likeness is truly expressed in and through you at all times. The great Graduation Day is yet to be at His return and will be the full manifestation of His kingdom. Those who have become like Him and expressed His talents will be promoted in His heavenly kingdom and be honoured before all heaven, the whole Christian Church an angels. This is what you must keep in mind and work towards so that event will see you in a new situation ready too serve Him in an eternal position. It will be worth all time, effort and sacrifice!

Take Time to be Holy

Holiness is a great theme and demand as revealed in both Testaments of the Bible. If a person is to have any wholesome and profitable fellowship with God and know His abundant blessing, then the bottom line is, holiness is essential.

This beloved devotional hymn comes to us from British layman William Dunn Longstaff (1822-1894). Since his father was a wealthy ship-owner, Longstaff was a person of independent financial means. Due to his generous philanthropy, he was influential in evangelical circles. The Rev. Carlton young, editor of the United Methodist hymnal, notes that he followed his friend and persuasive Welsh preacher Arthur R. Rees when he left the Anglican priesthood in 1842 after disagreements with is rector and bishop. As a result, Rees established the Bethesday Free Chapel in Sunderland, where Longstaff served as his church treasurer. He married Joyce Burlinson in 1853 and together they had seven children.

Longstaff befriended a number of well-known eveangelists such as William booth (1829-1912), founde of the Salvation Army. Some of Longstaff’s hymns were published in the official maagazine of the Salvation Army magazinf, The War Cry, during the 1980s. In 1873 the famous preacher Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899) and his chief musician Ira D. Sankey (1840-19080 arrived in England to hold a series of evangelistic meetings. The financial sponsor for their revivals died, leaving them with meagre means to continue. They were desperately seeking funds, and Longstaff came to their rescue, helping to establish a donor base that allowed Moody to hold revivals in London and Scotland.

Methodist hymnologist Robert Guy McCutchan notes that Longstaff was inspired by the words of Griffith John, a missionary to China, repeated in a meeting in Keswick, England in the early 1880s. John cited I Peter 1:16, “Be ye holy; for I am holy” (KJV), a reference to Leviticus 11:44. The hymn text appeared inHymns of Consecration, the collection of hymns used during the Keswick event. Longstaff showed the hymn to Ira Sankey, who in turn passed it on to American songwriter George C. Stebbins (1846-1945) to set in 1882. Stebbins laid it aside and did not recall it until an evangelistic meeting in India, during which the theme of holiness was explored. Stebbins recalled Longstaff’s hymn and set it to music for the revival. He sent his tune HOLINESS to Sankey, who published the hymn in New Songs and Sacred Solos.

1/. Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak, Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

2/. Take time to be holy, the world rushes on; Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be; Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

3/. Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide; And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord, And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.

4/. Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul, Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love, Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.

Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier – Mother Teresa

HAVING FAITH – Matthew 17: 14-27

It must have been quite sickening and saddening for the disciples not to be able to set this young boy free from the demon that was destroying him. They would have loved to be able to see him absolutely liberated from this cursed evil. His father was greatly distraught as he witnessed that his son was still held in the grip of this power. Christ’s disciples had proved powerless. It was not so with regard to Christ. All must have been glad of His appearance and intervention that brought instant relief to the crisis. The Lord allowed this to occur in order to teach His disciples the necessity of faith to resolve the impossible.

When they asked why they couldn’t work this miracle of healing, the reply of Christ was, “You didn’t have enough faith” – v17. That was the bottom line. He wasn’t there to simply criticize but to inspire and produce faith. This He did by setting the lad free and by encouraging His own apostles to commence believing for bigger things. There is the affirmation that ‘nothing would be impossible’ so His expectations of them was that they would move into the ministry of the miraculous. Their discouragement was banished by His encouragement. Faith was being initiated in them and it was time to believe and act according to this divine principle.

The situation may have looked a failure but it was to become a lesson whereby they would learn and move on to see the supernatural. So you may not have experienced all that you desired but the Lord would upgrade you both in your thinking and believing. Now is the time to trust and expect His working and intervention so that the impossible will begin to be manifest in your affairs. Only believe in Him and witness what His Word will do for you at this time.
