Be assured and at peace, neither the LORD nor His throne is disturbed by anyone or anything no matter how bad the conditions are. They will intensify but the LORD is in no way alarmed or in disarray. From eternity to eternity He is in charge and control and never will be unseated or deprived of His unique character, status or abilities. His omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence ensure this will ever be His right and possession and so lives to exercise complete mastery throughout the ages to come. As you relate to and live in and by Him so you will be sure and secure. He is able to look after all your life and interests both in time and eternity. He is committed not only to your being but always at hand to minister into everyday and make sure that you are fully provided for. SACRED SONGS

My God how wonderful Thou Art

This is a very profound and moving hymn that highlights man’s utter depravity but magnifies God’s greatness and graciousness. We may regard ourselves as wretched and worthless but He places a premium on our value by providing a way salvation through Christ. In accepting and knowing Christ, we come to a respectful and worthy acknowledgement of Him in every way.

The son of an Anglican clergyman, Frederick Faber began as a Calvinistic Protestant, but he Was eventually drawn into the Roman Catholic Church. There, feeling the loss of Protestant hymn-singing, he set about to create some hymns that Catholics could sing – hymns in the style of Cowper, Newton and Wesley. H e later published three volumes of hymns, but the one named is generally considered to be his best work.

Its description of the human heart as ‘worse than worthless’ is perhaps true in one limited sense. In his fallen state, man is unable to make himself acceptable to God, or worship Him in a worthy way. However, God loveus enough to send his son to die for our sins (John 3;16) . We are unworthy of that love, yes. But not worthless to Him.

My God, how wonderful thou art, Thy majesty how bright!
How beautiful thy mercy-seat, In depths of burning light!

How dread are thine eternal years, O everlasting Lord,
By holy angels, day and night, Incessantly adored!

O how I fear thee, living God,  With deepest, tenderest fears;
And worship thee with trembling hope, And penitential tears.

Yet I may love thee too, O Lord, Almighty as thou art;
For thou hast stooped to ask of me The love of my poor heart.

No earthly father loves like thee, No mother half so mild
Bears and forbears, as thou hast done With me, thy sinful child.

How wonderful, how beautiful, The sight of thee will be,
Thine endless wisdom, boundless power, And awful purity!

DAILY MEDITATIONS

BEING FILLED AND SATISFIED – Matthew 15: 32-39

The crowds were not prepared to leave Christ because of all the miracles were happening. They became so absorbed with Him and His acts of grace and power that they forgot to an extent their bodily needs. They just kept up with Him wondering what He would say and do next. He was a walking wonder amongst them and there was a genuine attractiveness about Him and also in the way He spoke and performed. They had no difficulty in switching on to Him because He was so different in that He listened and responded to their deepest requirements. He understood and cared in a manner that was altogether unique.

His love and power had no limits as He saw them in a state of hunger. He felt a concern and responsibility towards them as they followed Him over a course of three days. It must have been quite some thing to have the pull of a crowd over such a period that food appeared to be not so vital in the light of what they were hearing and seeing! They were being filled with the tokens of His grace and goodness. But more was to follow as Christ performed the miracle of multiplying the seven loaves and the few little fish. He was to make a little go a long way and leave them filled and satisfied. There was more than enough! – vv37,38.

Christ is still the means of great satisfaction in all things. Like the people of old, you must make Him your pursuit and discover that He is equal to any requirement you have in your life. Whatever your current state may be at this moment on the spiritual, material, natural and other fronts, Christ can fill and utterly satisfy you to the full and meet all that is essential. You need to make Him the resource of your life to find out the wealth and sufficiency of His love and power today.

FURTHER NOTES ON THE MINOR PROPHETS

DEEP-SEATED EVIL

AMOS 1-5

In the first two chapters there is the revelation of the fact that the nations are found to be guilty of sin and awful mal-practices. Nation after nation is mentioned, and finally Samaria and Judah. It is stated that they ‘sin again and again.’ Such a phrase indicates the deep-seated nature of evil that was the lot of the people. It is an exposure of inveterate evil. The life and lifestyle was the manifestation of sin that could not be left unanswered by the Lord, the true Judge of all. At the end of the day, it could be not excused and treated as if was not of no consequence. The messenger of the Lord discloses the truth that it had been observed by the Lord and would be dealt with. This was certainly to be so in relation to Israel and Judah – Amos 2: 4-15. The day of accountability had arrived and judgment – v4. One sees what is tabulated against these professed godly nations.

1/. THE REJECTION OF GOD’S LAWS AND DISOBEDIENCE – v4

High on the agenda and first mentioned is their blatant and flagrant disregard for God’s law. He had particularly given them a Book of Law in order to guide and govern them in its belief and behaviour but such had been both neglected and rejected. Creed and conduct were both evil.

2/. THE PREVALENCE OF A SPIRIT OF DECEPTION  – v4

They had been deluded and so were guilty of falsehood.  They were enacting a lie in their way of life. Sin is of this character and the more it is persisted in the more deceit is manifested. It is not easy to become disentangled and freed from evil. It gets into the warp and woof of being and conduct. The word ‘sinister’ has the word sin in it and expresses that which is stealthy, furtive and untrustworthy.

3/. THE PERVERSION OF JUSTICE IN EVERY WAY – v6

Sin is the opposite of divine righteousness and brings about not only wrong thinking but also shameful practices that are altogether obnoxious. Dishonesty prevails and there is a trampling on the rights of weak people. No integrity!

4/. THE PREVALENCE OF IMMORALITY – v7

Sin does find its expression in unbecoming sexual activity and people believe they can perform at this level without impunity. God thinks otherwise!

5/. THE ROTTENNESS OF THE RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS – v8

The impression is given of a sound and good relationship with the Lord but even such is loaded with sin – see also 4: 4,5.5: 21-24. He is not deceived or moved.

6/. THE CORRUPTING OF THE GOOD AND RESISTANCE TO GOD’S MESSENGERS – v12

This was a sad procedure that had been adopted and this made things worse. No wonder the time was now right and ripe for divine justice and judgment.
