A GOLDEN PROMISE from the Bible

TEMPATION IS A REALITY

There’s no doubt about it, temptation is a reality in this life and has to be faced and overcome. James the apostle speaks about ‘divers temptation’ and to take an attitude of joy in relation to them when they come. In other words confront them head on with the right spiritual attitude given by God which is one of elation. Do not let them get you down and be a drag on you, but unleash a sense of holy pleasure that God is allowing you to be tested so as to a supreme conqueror. A guarantee is afforded you when trials and tests come which is purposed to inspire and increase your faith to succeed over them. Paul writes to the saints of his day: “There hath no temptation taken you but such is common to man: but God is faithful, who will suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it” – 1 Corinthians 10:13. God knows you are up to it and as you rely wholly on Him you will be the victor at all times.

Thought for the Day

EXPECTATION

It is essential that you know what it is to possess divine expectation in your being and ministry. As you listen to the Lord and walk in His ways, He will beget some very choice promises that should create definite anticipation of God bringing great and good things to pass. Such will be a testimony to Him and His love of you. Abraham, even in late life, knew what it was to receive from Him definite revelation of what he could expect ahead. And magnificent things occurred! Your future should be full of the prospects that the Lord is placing inside of your mind and heart. Whilst you live with hopes of heaven hereafter, you can, whilst on the journey there, see the heart and hand of the Lord richly working very lovely things in the now. So do not postpone everything until the coming ages when your expectations should run high now and be brought to blessed realisation.

QUOTES TO NOTE – Dr. Billy Graham

As long as we are on this earth, we possess dual citizenship. On one hand we owe allegiance to our nation and are called to be good citizens. But we are also citizens of the kingdom of God. Our supreme loyalty is to Him.

DAILY MEDITATIONS

A FRIEND INDEED – 2 Samuel 16

It was to be a very difficult time for God’s servant David. He never thought the hour would come that he would have to take flight from his home and Jerusalem because of one of his sons. But it was so. The situation became extremely difficult as his life and others were threatened by Absalom’s intention to overthrow his father and his kingdom. What an embarrassment to be placed in, having his offspring filled with murderous intent and so he was on the run!

Certainly it was helpful to have those around who would befriend and assist. Left in Jerusalem was Hushai the Archite who was a genuine friend of the king and he was providentially placed to give vital aid at this critical period – vv16; 2 Samuel 17. How surprising that Absalom went for his counsel in preference to that of Ahithophel! This shows God was overseeing his servant in this severe trial and would cause the defeat of his opponent. God placed Hushai in these circumstances and he used it in the interest of his friend thus showing his true friendship.

Whilst we are here on earth we must develop true friendships and when occasion arises seek to prove it in difficult experiences. When people are under threat and pressure we ought to be able to be with and stand by them to secure their welfare and blessedness. It could well be there is someone near at hand at this very moment that could do with you being their friend, to succour and sustain in a trying circumstance. Regard it as opportune and a privilege to act in this role. You never know when the tables will be turned, when you will require the gracious and effective ministry of a real friend.

FURTHER NOTES ON THE MINOR PROPHETS

 AN APPROPRIATE HOUR

HOSEA 10

Even though the messenger of the Lord is called upon to affirm the true situation that Israel was in because of her sinful creed and conduct, it would seem that the Lord is emphasising to Judah the possibility of avoiding the same fate if it will take remedial action – vv11,12. There could come a reprieve and stay of judgement if she will adopt some sound and sensible doings of a right, spiritual order. It was an apt moment to get through to the southern kingdom and it was an appropriate hour for them to sit up and take notice and introduce the necessary reforms. There was something it could do from going down the same track and finishing up in a dreadful state. The summons indicates that

1/.THERE WAS TO BE THE PLOUGHING UP OF THEIR HARD HEARTS –vv11,1

It is called in the AV ‘fallow ground.’ This means land that had been left unattended and had become hardened, unproductive and in a state of utter barrenness. It was essential first of all that the cutting edge of the plough share penetrate and break up this condition of heart. Hardness of heart speaks of lack of responsiveness and yieldedness to God but now it was time for the breakthrough by God through His Spirit and Word to turn them over. A softening up procedure towards the Lord needed to occur. Brokenness was to precede blessedness.

2/. THERE WAS TO BE THE SOWING OF THE SEEDS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS – v12

The fallow could become the fertile and the fruitful if there was the readiness to receive and have the right seeds sown and the best plants planted. It was needful to have not only the right disposition but to make sure that there was a divine intake of choice sowing of the good and right kind. A miraculous change could take place providing the divine way of life was introduced and adhered to. A new and further opportunity was with them to amend what was being begotten into their hearts and lives.

3/. THERE WAS TO BE EXPERIENCING OF THE SHOWERS OF GOD’S BLESSING – v12

If they attended to the ploughing and sowing then there would fall in accord divine showers that would cause the seed to germinate, grow and become a healthy and wholesome crop. God would certainly fulfil His part if they truly did theirs. The whole situation would be changed by these showers.

4/. THERE WAS TO BE THE REAPING OF THE BEST KIND OF HARVEST

The end result would be a divine harvest that would satisfy the Lord and would bring complete enjoyment to God’s people. The reaping would herald all that was good and ensure the future of all. It can be seen that it was in their interests to rise at this opportune time to act out what was required of them. They could not afford to be indifferent to God.
