THE CARING LORD – 1 PETER 5:7

REQUIREMENT: Without question, people require someone on worth and wealth to truly show an interest and consideration in them and possess the ability to care and minister into all of their life’s situation. Man needs to be taken care of. There are those who feel like the psalmist of all who expressed: “I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me; refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul” – Psalm 142:4. He sensed he was a stranger and in a helpless and hopeless state of mind and being. It is at such a time when suicides occur! People feel they need to be wanted and helped.

COMPASSION: At the core of care is heart compassion. It is more than just manifest outwardly an act of benevolence. There has to be a genuine love within the caring so that its spring and motivation is free from all admixture. This is reflected in the ministry of the good Samaritan – Luke 10:30-37. One of the primary reasons for the advent of Christ was to come with the ministry of caring – Mark 10:45.

SUFFICIENCY: There is no lack in the ability of Christ to perform this kind of service. He generally and specially did things for people without ado. He not only did the physical and spiritual things for folks, He did the practical things too. Acts 10:38 “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth . . . . who went about doing good. . . . .” He not only went about, most folk do that; He went about doing good. He could cope with any person in any situation. In the Scriptures it is revealed that He had time for every individual and need. Peter discovered that He had a big enough heart, broad enough shoulders and a sufficiency to meet all.

(1) THERE IS THE CARING FOR BABES AND CHILDREN – MARK 10:13-16

His disciples may have little or no time for this group but not so the Lord. Just like a gardener has all the time in the world for his seeds and seedlings, so the Lord has much to give this infant community. His blessing can and does make a difference to them. There was an occasion when He was taken up in someone’s hands and arms and blessed, Simeon – Luke 2:38.

(2) THERE IS THE CARING FOR GROWN UP CHILDREN – MARK 5:22-24; JOHN 4:46

Parents that had offspring who had grown and now were in great need discovered He had got the time and ability to move in and help them in the hour of crisis. Jairus’s daughter even experienced death but Jesus cared enough to raise her to life. The nobleman so believed in Christ’s love, compassion and power that he could trust His word to effect an immediate cure.

(3) THERE IS THE CARE FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE – MARK 19:20

A young man came to him with a challenging question and Christ gave him a challenging answer, challenging him to faith and a greater life. He spoke the truth because He cared and He was offering this man at an important stage of life tremendous prospects. He wanted to open him up to faith and adventure. He was showing him the way to live is to give. It was already being proven in the young apostolic band who had given up business careers.

(4) THERE IS THE CARING FOR THE NEWLY MARRIED – JOHN 2

The marriage celebrations are thrust into a state of crisis and difficulty. One of the most important factors and features of the festive part was the provision of wine and the situation arose: “They have no wine.” What an embarrassment! It was a good job that Christ was there and was ready to respond to His mother’s request. He cared enough to make sure that the occasion was not ruined by providing wine of a vintage order – see v10. Not only abundance but the best!

(5) THERE IS THE CARING FOR THOSE WHO HAVE RUINED THEIR LIVES – JOHN 4

Jesus went deliberately out of His way to meet this woman who had messed up her life with a number of affairs and marriages. They had all failed and He went to switch her on to the pure water of life – v4. Her moral disaster did not prevent His care or ministry. Another woman in her sin was thrust upon Him but He showed the same love – John 8.

(6) THERE IS THE CARING FOR PEOPLE UNDER OPPRESSION – MARK 5:1-20

This is a wonderful case of care. This man was friendless and without anyone to give him any love or help, in fact everyone was helpless to meet his need. Christ knew about Him and went out of his way to effect his freedom from a tyranny of evil powers. No wonder the man wanted to stay with Jesus, He was the real Friend he had needed. He is sent on a good errand – vv19, 20.

(7) THERE IS THE CARING FOR LIVES IN JEOPARDY – MARK 4:35-41

They cried out in their desperation: “Carest Thou not . . . .?” He cared enough to become a man, to be with them etc. They were to discover how He could handles storm and tempest and them.

Whatever the kind and weight of care, Christ is here to bring an answer to it. What has to be done? There has to be the casting – to throw and let go and let Him perform His ministry. We have then to do the resting – leave all to Him. No need to be filled with anxious care because He cares.
