We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him” – 1 John 4: 6

The WEB Bible says that if we remain in love, we remain in God. We could also translate this to mean that if we make our home in love, we make our home in God …for God is love. Think about this image for a second. If love were a house, your Heavenly Father would give you complete run of the place! You could go to the refrigerator any time you like…kick off your shoes in the living room and lie on the couch… etc.

If love were a house, then it would stand to reason that our Father would want us to be comfortable living there. But my question is… Are we comfortable living in love? Are we comfortable with the intimacy and vulnerability that comes with living in love? For many of us, even the word ‘love’ might have a broken meaning. For us to learn to be comfortable living in love, God will have to redeem our understanding of what love is.

In 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, we read the Apostle Paul’s description of love…
4 Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, 5 doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; 6 doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with. (WEB)

For us to be able to comprehend the kind of love that comes directly from God Himself, we need to be comfortable on the receiving end of love. In 1 John 4:19, the Bible says that ‘we love because He first loved us’. If you want to learn how to be comfortable living in the house of God’s love, ask Him to teach you how to receive love from Him every day.

The more that we are able to receive our Father’s love, the more that we will be comfortable making our home living in love. As we live in the love that God has for us, others will see it’s impact on our lives and want to live there too!

“I wisdom will make the hours of your day more profitable and the years of your life more fruitful. Wisdom is its own reward, and if you scorn her, you hurt only yourself”.

Read: Proverbs: 9:11-12 This is a phase that has taken on more common usage since the advent of the new generation of Management and Human Resource training. The reasoning behind the title of today’s insight is not to demean manual labour by any means, but to make sure you maintain a balanced lifestyle that incorporates the best utilization of the hours available to you in any given day.

For instance, if somebody is working three jobs in order to stay alive, then sooner or later something is going to suffer. It could be your health because your body was not designed to be pushed to these limits on a continuous basis.

It could be your family because whilst you may be providing the cash you feel they need, you are losing, and so are they, the benefits of family
time together. Then again it could reflect badly on the proper and rightful need for rest and relaxation through a sport, hobby or another pastime that helps us break the work cycle and its ongoing demands.

Wisdom tells us to get things in harmony in our routine then everything will fall into place more easily and function more effectively. You will seem to have more hours in your day to do the things you really want to do and your years will definitely be more fruitful and fulfilling.

If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door – Milton Berle

It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light – Aristotle Onassis

Each day I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices – today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it – Kevyn Aucoin

A JOB TO DO – Genesis 2: 8-15; Nehemiah 2-6

It is quite interesting to note that having created man, He placed him in the beautiful Garden of Eden. This was to be his home environment where he was to live and develop. What fantastic surroundings were his to appreciate and fully enjoy! He was given all the essential capacities and sensitivities to experience to the full the delights of this habitation. But it is noteworthy, he was placed there not simply to luxuriate and be idle but to be employed. There was a role and work for him to fulfil in order to make life profitable and more pleasurable. He was to be the first gardener and his task was to dress and look after it. It was to be a worthy and rewarding occupation.

God has determined that men and women should work and find development and fulfilment in life by the means of labour and industry. It should not be frowned upon and be rejected as an unhealthy factor. We are here to make a major contribution in life in some calling and vocation in order that our time and talents be well spent. Idleness is regarded as a sin and must not be allowed to rule our beings and lives.

Nehemiah, although he had a job as the king’s cup-bearer, was called to a more demanding task of becoming a builder for God. He did not reject the divine assignment to hard work but did a great and good job for God. He tackled a seeming impossible enterprise and saw it through to a satisfactory conclusion. What is the work that God is calling you to do both naturally and spiritually? Do not shy away from the matter of work because it will develop your character and gift and bring untold reward. Whatever your heart and hands find to do, the Bible says, ‘do with all your might’ in and for God today, and throughout this week. Go to work with pleasure and profit.
