DON’T QUIT

READING     Luke 18: 1-8

TEXT             v1-8

INTRODUCTION

Illustrations: Winston Churchill when asked to visit the school he had been taught in to give an address simply got up and gave the briefest of messages not likely to be forgotten. ‘Never give up. Never ever give up. Never, ever, ever give up’, and then sat down. What an inspiration was sown through a very short message!

Christ said: ‘Men ought always to pray and not to faint’ – Luke 18: 1

Paul said: ‘And let us not be weary in  well doing for good, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not’ – Galatians 6: 9

Preacher’s Message entitled: ‘The Will to Win’. All need to have a clear vision and the strength of will to succeed whatever the demand and challenge. It can be noted in a number of people and in a variety of situations. Don’t quit –

  1. WHEN GIVEN A MAJOR WORK TO DO

Assignments of a big nature are given by a big God to ordinary people and by His enabling it is possible to achieve them. If these people could succeed so can you. ·          Noah – Genesis 6; ·          Nehemiah – see his story·          Paul – 2 Corinthians 11

    2.  WHEN CALLED TO MAKE GREAT SACRIFICE

It put Abraham on the line and truly tested him as to his love and commitment and the patriarch did not fail – see Genesis 22.   ‘If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, then there is no sacrifice too great for me to make for Him’ – Count Zinzendorf

    3.  WHEN SUBJECTED TO FALSE ACCUSATION AND MALIGNMENT

It was a challenging moment for Joseph when he had scaled the heights to prominence to be unjustly accused but he held true to God in the test and when wrongly judged – Genesis 39.See also, Jesus Christ.

    4.  WHEN SEEKING AN ANSWER TO PRAYER

Sometimes answers are not always immediately answered and the danger is of losing heart and quitting this vital ministry. Hannah and widow woman serve as examples of those who were determined to get what they desired – 1 Samuel 1; Luke 18: 1-8.

    5.  WHEN REACHING OUT FOR A MORE  DYNAMIC LIFE AND MINISTRY

There is so much to be entered into in terms of authority and divine usefulness and it comes to those who have staying power and the will to win through.·          Elisha – 2 Kings 2·          Infant Church – Acts 1  2·

    6.  WHEN REQUIRING PHYSICAL HEALING AND DELIVERANCE

When sickness and pain attack and are of a chronic and longstanding order it takes faith and determination to believe for an answer but God is able to supply such. ·          Syro-Phonecian woman – Matthew 15: 27·          Woman with the issue of blood – Matthew 9: 20·          Man with infirmity thirty eight years – John 5

    7.  WHEN YOU HAVE THE RACE AND FIGHT OF LIFE TO COMPLETE

The important thing in Christian life, faith and service is to finish strong, and that means winning the race and fight. The last stretch and round are to be the point where success is known – see 2 Timothy 4: 5, 6.

CONCLUSION     God is seeking to create and cultivate a race of people who will be winners and who He will be able to honour and crown at the end.
