LOVERS WEDDED TO TRADITIONAL VALUES

The traditions of romantic marriage and long engagements are flourishing, it seems.

Even young men still ask future-in-laws for their daughter’s hand in marriage.

Two thirds of under 29’shave a ring to hand when they pop the question, with the West Midlands and London the hotspots.

Young people more than any other age group believe the man should propose. And location? Women prefer the place they first met their partner, and Valentine’s Day would be perfect. Men would opt for an exotic holiday or birthday.

When it comes to the engagement, there’s no need to rush to the altar – nearly half believe it should last at least a year, while a third say it should be two years.

Men want to ask their future-in-laws for permission before proposing, although women believe this to be outdated now. And 60% of people want the husband to wear a wedding ring. High Street jeweller Ernest Jones also discovered in its survey that one in seven young people believe that size matters in engagement rings, with the bigger, the ‘rock’ the better – but women are more concerned  about the number of stones it has.

Ernest Jones said: “It is refreshing in this hectic society we live in that people still hold certain traditions dear, like having a proper engagement.

“It is clear that despite rising divorce rates, marriage is an institution which many people want to hang on to”.                         Taken from an article by the Daily Mail

Top ten WAYS TO COUNT YOUR CONGREGATION

UP FOR THE COUNT

One of the most frustrating things about leadership is how slow it is to get your ministry grow. God gives the increase but sometimes we lose patience waiting for it.

  1. INSTALL THE TURNSTILES

and make sure that the toilets are on the opposite side of the turnstiles from the     meeting hall.

   2.  iNCLUDE ALL THE PREGNANT WOMEN

             Count them as two.

   3.  INCLUDE ALL THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN’T COME

but call the church their home.

   4.  INTRODUCE THREE PEOPLE TO COUNT THE CONGREGATION

      Always pick the highest figure.

   5.  INVOLVE YOUR EVANGELIST IN THE ROLE OF COUNTING

The figure is sure to be higher than normal.

   6.  INSIST ON ALWAYS COUNTING ‘IN FAITH’

Surely the numbers will be higher than when counting with the natural eye

   7.  INVITE THE WHOLE COMMUNITY TO COME

and tell them that you’re giving free shopping vouchers from a major supermarket to all who turn up. Then count.

   8.  INDULGE IN COMPLETE DENIAL

     and keep preaching to thousands.

   9.  INTRODUCE A MIRROR WALL ON THE SIDE OF THE WORKSHOP HALL

and then get someone visually challenged to count.

   10.  INTERVIEW FOR THE JOB OF COUNTING

and only select teenagers who use excessive words such as “mega” and awesome
