The men thing

By Rev. David Hind

David is now the minister of trinity church Leicester and his articles have been greatly appreciated.

Women are compassionate, loving and caring and they cry when they are happy Women have the ability to keep smiling even if exhausted

Women will stop at nothing to get what they think best for their children

Women can turn a simple meal into an occasion and know how to make a man feel like a king

Women know how to comfort a sick friend and will go the extra mile Women know how to entertain children for hours on end

Women have a will of iron under that soft exterior Women are easily brought to tears by injustice

Women make the world a much happier place to live in Men can move heavy things and deal with spiders.

Men are all different, with unique personalities and characters that can’t be generalised or boxed. However, we face battles that can leave us all feeling undermined, restricted and powerless.

In the New Testament Paul talks about the kind of men who receive recognition from God –men on their guard, firm in their faith, full of courage, who act and live in love; men devoted to serve, who know how to submit and supply what others lack.

So here are my ten thoughts for men:

Walk with Jesus

He is the ultimate role model – the greatest man ever to live and we need Him. Read your Bible, pray every day, go to church and get  involved, commit your life to Him and be teachable and vulnerable.

Be accountable

Who really knows you? Who checks up on you? Who says ‘no’ to you? Have someone who regularly asks you the hard questions, cuts through the rubbish, is not easily fooled and is committed to you.

Deal with your eyes

If you watch men and how they look at women you will soon want to be different. Set new standards for yourself, focus on the eyes of a person and deal with your ‘eye-gate’.

Conquer pornography

Whether it’s in a magazine, on television, or the internet, don’t kid yourself, you are responsible for what you look at. ·          Sign up at wwwcovenateyes.com and the sites you visit will be emailed weekly by a friend·          Never turn the television on without checking the scheduled pages first·          Get rid of satellite television if you can’t control yourself

Be generous

Never be tight with friends and loved ones. Be the first to give. Look for ways to show generosity without anyone knowing it was you and always sow in abundance to God.

Be chivalrous

Even if they refuse it or never say ‘thank you’, always hold open a door for a lady, give up your seat for them when the occasion arises and look for ways to be kind. Be the first to be thankful and live with a sense of gratitude for what you have, not focusing on what you don’t have.

Be disciplined

Don’t be mastered by anything other than the purpose of God. Exercise control with food, alcohol, taking exercise and sensible bedtimes.

Have fun and laugh a lot

I recently spent a week with a new friend and laughed more than I have done for a long time. I returned refreshed, strengthened and life was more in perspective.

Be ordered

Don’t live a chaotic life, but allow order and structure to surround you – it doesn’t prevent you from being spontaneous. Make a will and leave your finances ordered, so if you die, this isn’t an area that your wife has to worry about. I organise all the finances in our home and I have created a file so that if I die, everything is clear for Susan and she will know what to do. This isn’t morbid, but responsible.

Don’t underestimate who you are

You are a man of God, armed with strength, given a shield of victory, sustained by God who ‘stoops down to make you great’ – see Psalm 18: 35. Your best years are ahead of you, the power of God Almighty is in you and nothing can stop you being all you ar called to be except you.  The poet Joshua Gilbert wrote: God give us men! A time like this demandsStrong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands;Men whom the lust of office does not kill;Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy;Men who possess and opinions and will;Men who will have honour; men who will not lie…
